Responsibilities
• Review project specifications, schematics, timelines, and customer requirements to determine electrical design scope.
• Develop electrical control system designs using AutoCAD Electrical
• Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts
• Select appropriate electrical components (PLCs, sensors, relays, breakers, etc.) based on functional requirements
• Support design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, software, and manufacturing)
• Ensure compliance with electrical and safety standards (CSA, UL, NFPA 79, ISO 12100)
• Provide technical support to Manufacturing and Field Service teams during build and commissioning
• Troubleshoot electrical systems and resolve design-related issues both on-site and remotely
• Participate in continuous improvement of design practices and standardization initiatives
• Prepare comprehensive design review documents and actively participate in customer review meetings
• Generate detailed bill of materials (BOM) using MiniMRP software
• Gather quotes from suppliers for required parts and generate purchase orders accordingly
• Communicate project progress via designated channels such as Asana and email
• Provide all necessary documentation (Drawings, test spec etc.) to be used by the Manufacturing and software team
• Ensure all ordered components have been received and kitted in their allocated bins
• Document spare parts list for future reference and inventory management
• Conduct final BOM and drawing check against actual build before shipping to ensure accuracy
Qualifications
• Diploma in Electrical Design or related field
• 4+ years of experience in electrical design and industrial automation
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and familiarity with PLC-based control systems
• Strong understanding of electrical schematics, control circuits, motor control, sensor integration, instrumentation, and power distribution
• Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and CAN communication protocols (preferred)
• Familiarity with applicable safety requirements and standards (CSA, UL, NFPA 79, OSHA, ISO 12100)
• Excellent documentation, organizational, and communication skills
• Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, software and manufacturing
• A valid passport and ability to travel to the U.S. and Mexico for support
• Certifications in industrial safety or automation (e.g., CSA, Siemens or Rockwell training)
• Experience in the automotive or testing equipment industry
• Certifications in Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing
