Responsibilities
Interfaces with other internal technical discipline team members and Engineering and Reliability, key suppliers and industry organizations to ensure the best electrical practices are being implemented;
Supports the management of quality and consistency of engineering in the plant for the Electrical discipline ensuring that Electrical technical requirements are met across all engineering interfaces;
Supports development and updating of Electrical standards and specifications for the refinery and ensure compliance from all parties;
Provides engineering expertise to Maintenance and Operations groups for electrical maintenance programs, spare parts and troubleshooting of electrical equipment;
Participates in field walkdowns to collect information, confirm new designs will work, inspect new installations, troubleshoot, support technicians and operators;
Provides technical support for approval of vendors and suppliers to maintain the Approved Manufacturers List for Electrical equipment;
Keeps discipline records up to date, authenticate and stamp all final documents where required for use in the plant and ensure that equipment data is properly filed;
Provides support to keep up to date all internal electrical technical tools: ETAP software, Power Management System files and database, heat tracing management systems, Smartplant Electrical, etc.;
Performs Electrical Power System Analyses and other applicable studies required to maintain the facility assuring compliance with all applicable specifications and codes pertaining to all aspects of electrical systems and equipment;
Participate in the specification and procurement of critical electrical equipment as required to maintain the plant including preparation of requisitions, technical bid evaluations and supplier document reviews;
Evaluates technical deviation requests (deviations from refinery standards and specifications) from the contractor as well as facility management of change requests;
Reviews and develops schedules and diagrams pertaining to main electrical power and its direct control systems;
Reviews electrical power analysis models for all electrical protection arrangements, devices and sizes/ratings;
Creates and supports electrical calculations, equipment sizing, cable sizing, AC & DC UPS systems, transformers, lighting, impressed cathodic protection, etc. for new projects;
Coordinates Electrical, Instrumentation and Telecoms cable rack inputs into the Smartplant Design Tools;
Backfills the Lead - Electrical Engineer for vacation relief, etc.
Qualifications
Understands, creates and maintains a visible commitment to process and personal safety, as well as the safety of others; adheres to Core Competencies to drive results and a high performing culture.
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; Registered as a Professional Engineer in the
province of Alberta.
5 years of Professional Engineering experience working in a heavy industrial environment;
Strong understanding of safe work practices and engineering obligations in an industrial environment;
Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, IEEE standards and other codes and guidelines for refinery and upgrading electrical equipment and systems;
Ability to reach the right balance between business and technical requirements and to work collaboratively with all stakeholders;
Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective interpersonal relationships in addition to creating a positive and productive team-oriented environment.
Summary
This position requires an intermediate to senior level Electrical Reliability Engineer with experience in Process Plant environments; such as Refineries, Chemical Manufacturing or Pulp/Paper Manufacturing.
