Responsibilities
• Solution Development & Estimating: Partner with Sales to define customer scope, establish estimating strategies, and review/approve detailed cost build-ups covering materials, labor, engineering, freight, subcontractors, and contingencies.
• Commercial Excellence: Protect gross margins by reviewing pricing assumptions, exclusions, qualifications, and estimate risks on complex or non-standard proposals prior to customer submission.
•Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and establish accountability for the estimating team regarding accuracy, turnaround times, and handoff quality.
• Process & Systems Improvement: Develop and maintain estimating standards, templates, cost codes, and databases while collaborating on digital transformation and software improvements.
• Operational Handoffs: Conduct project handoffs with Operations, clearly documenting quantities, scope boundaries, budget allowances, and potential risks to prevent downstream margin erosion.
• Sales Support & Client Engagement: Assist Sales with technical scope clarifications, value engineering, customer meetings, and resolving quote discrepancies or commercial term questions.
Qualifications
• Demonstrated experience leading estimating, technical sales, solution development, or project management teams within a project-based, construction, or manufacturing environment.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen with a proven track record of assessing project risk and protecting profit margins.
• Proficiency in preparing detailed estimates, quantity take-offs, cost build-ups, and proposals.
• Practical knowledge of structural/civil engineering principles, building codes, construction methods, and project documentation.
• Ability to interpret complex drawings, technical specifications, and vendor quotations into defensible estimates. Experience working with ERP, CRM, estimating software, cost databases, and advanced spreadsheets.
• Strong numerical, analytical, negotiation, and cross-functional leadership skills.
