Duties/Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Consolidation
•Preparation of the consolidated and non-consolidated financial statements and reporting packages.
Accounting, Financial Oversight, Compliance & Analysis
•Stay updated on financial laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
•Prepare and oversee compliance with government reporting requirements and tax filings.
•Manage all corporate, Canadian, US, and international tax and other regulatory filings for accuracy and compliance.
•Ensure compliance with accounting standards.
•Manage external audit processes, providing necessary documentation and addressing auditor concerns and preparing the audited financial statements.
•Preparation of financial statements, reporting packages, and board reports.
•Manage cash flow, treasury, and banking operations to ensure liquidity and financial health.
•Provide detailed financial analyses for capital investments, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations
•Ensure compliance with industry-specific financial regulations and internal policies.
•Provide insights into foreign exchange, tax implications, and other considerations related to global sales and manufacturing.
•Coordinate with external advisors on international tax and compliance matters.
•Ensure compliance with applicable federal, provincial/state, and local employment laws and regulations including payroll, benefits, and taxes.
•Oversee payroll processes for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with payroll regulations.
Budgeting and Forecasting
•Lead the preparation of the annual budget, financial forecasts, and long-term financial plans, reporting on variances and suggesting corrective actions.
•Develop and track financial and operational metrics to measure performance.
•Monitor adherence to the company’s budget and financial targets.
•Provide detailed variance analysis of actual vs. forecasted performance, identifying key trends and risks.
Internal Controls and Compliance
•Identify and mitigate financial risks.
•Develop and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
•Ensure compliance with tax laws, export regulations, and other relevant industry standards.
•Stay informed about changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and financial regulations to ensure the company remains compliant.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
•Work with the CFO to develop long-term financial strategies to support company growth.
•Provide leadership to the accounting team, ensuring efficient operations and continuous professional development.
•Work closely with senior management to analyze financial performance, implement improvements, and make recommendations.
•Collaborate with cross-functional teams (sales, operations, procurement) to streamline financial processes and support decision-making.
Continuous Improvement & Operational Optimization
•Evaluate and implement new accounting technologies to improve efficiency.
•Work with other leaders to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve profitability.
•Lead cost management efforts, focusing on operational expenditures, waste reduction, and efficiency.
•Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize accounting processes, enhance reporting accuracy, and increase operational efficiency.
•Lead or participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving business processes, including system upgrades, automation, and best practice adoption.
•Lead special projects related to financial systems, business expansions, or strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and operational efficiency.
Other
•Support the quality policy, scope, and objectives of the quality management system (QMS).
•Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) policies and the company's life rules policy and code of ethics.
•Perform other duties as assigned by the CFO.
Qualifications
•Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
•5+ years of relevant experience in accounting or finance, ideally in a medium to large-scale company.
•Supervisory experience, including leading and developing a team of accounting professionals.
•Experience with ERP systems is an asset.
•Background in an industrial, manufacturing, or plant setting preferred but not required.
•Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros, etc.).
•In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and Canadian Business Tax Law.
•Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
•Knowledge of purchasing and materials management.
•Ability to communicate complex financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
•Strong relationship management skills with internal and external stakeholders.
•Ability to foster a collaborative team environment and mentor staff.
•Strong leadership, including providing direction, mentoring, and performance feedback.
•Committed to ethical behavior and maintaining high standards of integrity.
