Responsibilities
Freight Coordination & Tracking
-Book and track shipments across all modes, including Truckload (TL), Less-than-Truckload (LTL), intermodal, and cross-border freight.
-Proactively monitor in-transit loads, communicate accurate ETAs, and escalate issues to ensure on-time delivery.
-Arrange pickup/delivery appointments and confirm all details with carriers and stakeholders.
-Act as a key liaison with our Transportation Management System (TMS) partner to resolve freight solutions and system issues.
Quoting & Cost Support
-Provide rapid and accurate freight quotes to support the Sales team's customer pricing and the Purchasing team's vendor negotiations.
-Continuously monitor freight cost trends, identifying and highlighting anomalies or opportunities for cost optimization and savings.
NCRs & Anomaly Resolution
-Initiate and follow up on Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) related to freight, conducting thorough investigations with carriers/brokers.
-Track and resolve anomalies such as late deliveries, unexpected accessorial charges, or incorrect freight bills by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
Data & Systems
-Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of freight records within the TMS and ERP systems.
-Support reporting and analysis on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as carrier performance, overall freight spend, and service issues.
Process Improvement
-Identify and recommend process or technology enhancements to improve overall freight efficiency, visibility, and cost savings within the supply chain.
Qualifications
-3–5 years of hands-on freight operations experience gained in a distribution, brokerage, or carrier environment.
-Solid knowledge of TL, LTL, intermodal, and cross-border freight practices.
-Proven experience working with TMS platforms and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or equivalent).
-Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills with a track record of resolving complex freight disputes.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with Sales, Purchasing, carriers, and brokers.
-Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple shipments, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
-Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills; experience with freight reporting and KPI dashboards is a significant asset.
-Must be a self-motivated team player who can work effectively independently and relate well with all levels of staff.
Summary
We are looking to fill this position ASAP. Ideal candidates will be located in the downtown Toronto area and must be flexible to occasionally jump on a freight quote request after typical hours.
