Responsibilities
•Actively builds strong, professional, trusting relationships within assigned departments to be a strategic partner who anticipates needs and supports employee engagement.
•Advises and supports in various areas of employee relations, including pro-active performance management, progressive discipline, growth management, conflict resolution.
•Interprets human resources administrative directives, employment standards, human rights and other applicable polices and legislation.
•Communicates, maintains and implements human resources policies, procedures and best practices in accordance with legislated standards, legal practices and organizational business needs.
•Researches, prepares and maintains job descriptions through market tracking and internal comparisons and equity, responsible for maintaining internal equity through the job evaluation system.
•Supports labour relations through healthy relationships with unions, supporting managers with interpretation and grievance management.
•In accordance with legal and legislative requirements, conducts internal investigations or culture checks as required.
•Mediates problems or issues either within or between teams.
•Acts as a network broker by identifying when to trigger a connection between people rather than just passing on information.
•Coaches others in effective decision-making practices.
•Effectively applies knowledge of all relevant HR concepts to required job tasks.
•Participates in recruitment and selection processes ensuring cultural alignment.
Qualifications
•Degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent
•3 to 5 years experience as a human resources generalist in an unionized environment.
•Experience in the public sector is preferred
•Thorough understanding of Alberta Employment Standards, Human Rights Act, Labour Relations legislation
•Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation or qualification
•Workplace investigation training is considered an asset
•ICS 100
•FOIP Certification
