As an Intermediate Accountant in the finance & accounting sector, you will be responsible for the integrity of the firm’s financial data. This is an on-site role where your finance & accounting expertise will be utilized daily as you navigate complex project costs and ensure that the company’s financial health is meticulously documented and reported.

Responsibilities
• Manage the complete full-cycle accounting process, ensuring all journal entries and ledgers are accurate and compliant with GAAP.
• Oversee complex inventory tracking and valuation, specifically as it relates to engineering equipment and project-based materials.
• Perform rigorous monthly and quarterly reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, and intercompany transactions.
• Take the lead on the annual audit preparation, organizing all necessary work papers and serving as the primary liaison for external auditors.
• Utilize QuickBooks to generate detailed financial statements and departmental reports for the leadership team.
• Develop and maintain advanced Excel spreadsheets to track project variances, burn rates, and historical financial trends.
• Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring that project-specific billing is executed on time and with high precision.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement within the finance & accounting cycle and implement solutions independently.
• Assist with the preparation of corporate tax filings and GST reporting for the Calgary office.
• Collaborate with engineering project leads to ensure all costs are correctly allocated to the appropriate cost centers.
Qualifications
• 3 to 4 years of hands-on experience in a finance & accounting role, ideally within engineering or construction
• Must be a "self-starter" who takes initiative to streamline finance & accounting tasks.
• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks (Desktop or Online) for high-volume finance & accounting environments.
• Expert-level Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to build pivot tables, utilize VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and create complex macros.
• Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting principles, specifically within the engineering or project-based industry.
• Proven ability to manage inventory systems and conduct accurate stock reconciliations.
• Excellent analytical skills to identify and resolve discrepancies during the month-end close.
• High degree of initiative; the ability to work with minimal supervision in a medium-sized company setting.
• Professional communication skills to explain financial data to non-financial engineering staff.
• Strong organizational habits to manage the intense documentation requirements of an annual audit.
