Responsibilities
• Create, process, and issue a high volume of purchase orders (POs) for repair materials, operational supplies, spare parts, tools, and indirect materials.
• Track shipment statuses, monitor open purchase orders, and actively expedite deliveries to minimize inventory shortages or plant downtime.
• Conduct meticulous invoice verification by reconciling discrepancies between purchase orders and vendor invoices regarding pricing, quantities, and terms.
• Maintain highly accurate purchasing records, pricing sheets, and supplier master data within the Visual Manufacturing ERP system.
• Review incoming internal department requisitions for completeness and accuracy prior to processing orders.
• Provide seamless backup coverage for the Senior Buyer, assisting with the procurement of critical production raw materials when required.
• Periodically visit the plant production floor to physically confirm inventory levels, verify received deliveries, and consult with maintenance managers.
• Support the Division Controller with financial administrative reporting, data entry, and meeting strict daily accounting deadlines.
Qualifications
• Post-secondary education, such as a diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance & Accounting, or a related discipline.
• 1 to 5 years of dedicated experience in purchasing, procurement, or corporate inventory clerk roles (Junior level).
• Prior experience working within an industrial, manufacturing, logistics, or steel/metal production environment is highly preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically maintaining tracking sheets in Microsoft Excel.
• Direct experience using ERP or Material Requirements Planning (MRP) software; familiarity with Visual Manufacturing is a strong asset.
• Capability to occasionally walk through an industrial plant environment where safety gear is required to inspect inventory.
• Commitment to remaining in the role for a minimum of 2–3 years to master departmental functions before seeking internal transfers.
