Responsibilities
System Optimization & Inventory
Evaluate existing maintenance frameworks and suggest/implement upgrades to tools, equipment, and software systems.
Oversee the spare parts inventory and systems to ensure critical components are always available.
Liaise with external contractors and specialized vendors for facility inspections and parts procurement.
Team Mentorship & Skill Development
Standardize technical procedures by creating and updating troubleshooting guides for common machinery issues.
Onboard new hires and provide ongoing technical coaching to existing team members.
Manage the departmental training matrix and coordinate specialized external training sessions.
Facilitate shift handovers and cross-departmental meetings to align maintenance goals with production needs.
Safety, Compliance, and EHS
Ensure all activities comply with provincial health and safety legislation and internal environmental policies.
Proactively identify workplace hazards and implement mitigation strategies.
Workflow Coordination & Incident Management
Direct daily assignments for the technical team to ensure balanced workloads and timely completion of tasks.
Serve as the primary point of contact for extended equipment failures, leading root cause analysis (RCA) and documenting breakdown recovery efforts.
Monitor work order progress and ensure all digital and physical maintenance logs are accurate and up-to-date.
Manage the escalation process for critical failures to ensure rapid restoration of operations.
Qualifications
Valid Industrial Electrician or Millwright Red Seal
Proven track record in a leadership or "Lead Hand" capacity within an automated manufacturing environment
Strong background in structured problem-solving (e.g., 8D, 5-Whys, or Fishbone analysis)
Experience managing preventative maintenance software and MS Office Suite
Key Competencies
Decisiveness: Ability to prioritize high-pressure tasks and make sound technical judgments under tight deadlines.
Communication: Highly developed verbal and written skills for reporting to management and mentoring staff.
Proactivity: A self-starter mindset focused on improving systems rather than just reacting to failures.
