The Metals Inspector plays an important role in daily yard operations by inspecting incoming scrap metal loads, verifying material quality and specifications, directing vehicles safely throughout the yard, and supporting efficient unloading and stockpiling processes. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, has strong attention to detail, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and enjoys working outdoors while supporting overall yard efficiency and quality control operations.
What We’re Looking For:
Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and within a team
Comfortable performing physically demanding work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions
Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety, quality, and organization
Ability to communicate effectively with team members, drivers, and customers
Mechanically inclined with experience using hand and power tools
Previous experience in scrap metal, recycling, industrial yard, automotive, shipping/receiving, or similar environments considered an asset
Comfortable lifting materials and being active throughout the shift
Positive attitude with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced yard environment

Responsibilities
Inspect incoming scrap metal shipments to ensure materials meet quality and safety standards
Identify, record, and track scrap weight, grade, quantity, and content
Report any issues, hazards, or non-conforming materials to supervisors
Assist with directing traffic and unloading activities within the yard
Support daily yard and production operations as required
Report equipment damage or maintenance concerns
Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times
Participating in safety, quality and environmental inspections
Qualifications
You can meet the schedule and shift time: 8:00AM - 4:30PM (Monday-Friday +Occaional Saturdays as needed. )
Minimum 1+ years of experience working in a yard, industrial, recycling, scrap metal, automotive garage, or similar environment
Mechanically inclined with experience using hand and power tools
Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow instructions and safety procedures
Comfortable working in fast-paced outdoor or covered outdoor environments in all weather conditions
Physically capable of lifting up to 55 lbs and standing/walking throughout an 8-hour shift
Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and within a team environment
High ankle steel toe boots with toe cover (metatarsal protection) required
Located in or able to commute to Surrey, BC
Vehicle preferred; site is approximately a 20-minute walk from Scott Road Station
Physical Conditions / Work Environment
Outdoor and covered outdoor work environment in varying weather conditions
Continuous standing and walking throughout the yard during shifts
Frequent bending, crouching, reaching, and lifting throughout the day
Ability to lift and carry up to 50–55 lbs consistently
Exposure to industrial noise, dust, dirt, moving equipment, and heavy machinery
Required to wear PPE including steel toe boots, hearing protection, respirators, and other safety equipment as needed
Fast-paced industrial scrap yard environment with moving vehicles and equipment
Ability to work safely around loaders, trucks, forklifts, rail cars, and production equipment
Physically demanding role requiring strong awareness and attention to surroundings
Overtime, weekend work, and schedule flexibility may be required during peak periods
