Operations Manager
Markham, ON
Full-Time, Permanent
Day Shift (Monday – Friday)
$85,000 – $95,000 / year + Comprehensive Benefits
A premier Canadian commercial trade and specialty materials distributor is seeking an agile, high-ownership Operations Manager to lead its flagship Markham operational hub.
...
In this high-impact leadership role, you will take full ownership of a fast-paced flagship facility—directly leading an on-site team of up to 18+ across trade counter customer service, order fulfillment, and warehouse logistics.
Beyond the flagship floor, you will serve as the multi-site operational anchor, coaching branch leadership and driving standardized operational excellence across the GTA branch network.
If you are an autonomous, hands-on leader who thrives on the warehouse floor and showroom rather than being confined behind a desk, this role offers extensive autonomy, high executive visibility, and the opportunity to help scale a growing multi-site distribution footprint.
Advantages
$85,000 – $95,000 annual base salary commensurate with experience.
Full extended health, dental, vision, paramedical, and life insurance coverage.
Executive Partnership: Act as the direct right hand to the Head of Operations with real influence over standard operating procedures, workflows, and network strategy.
Network-Wide Scope: Run a large flagship facility while driving multi-site influence and operational best practices across regional branches.
Stable Day Schedule: Monday to Friday
Employee Perks: Substantial company product discounts across a vast catalog of commercial materials.
Responsibilities
-Flagship Floor & Service Ownership (70%+ Floor Presence): Drive end-to-end site execution across both the customer-facing contractor order desk and back-of-house fulfillment
-Frontline Team Leadership & Culture: Lead, mentor, and hold accountable an on-site team across warehouse fulfillment, staging, and customer service. Foster a disciplined, high-energy, collaborative frontline culture capable of navigating seasonal volume surges.
-Multi-Site Operational Alignment: Partner directly with the Head of Operations to roll out standard operating procedures (SOPs), 5S housekeeping standards, and performance metrics (KPIs); support, audit, and mentor branch leaders across the GTA network.
-Fulfillment, Staging & Logistics Flow: Direct order picking accuracy, staging workflows, and freight transfer schedules between branches to ensure rapid turnaround times for commercial contractors and site deliveries.
-Inventory Control & Systems Accuracy: Champion inventory integrity through regular cycle-counting programs, shrink reduction, receiving audits, and reconciliation within the ERP/WMS platforms.
-Enforce strict workplace health and safety (OSHA) compliance, daily material handling equipment inspections, facility maintenance, and third-party vendor coordination.
Qualifications
-6 to 8+ years of progressive operations management experience leading both warehouse fulfillment logistics and trade counter/commercial retail operations
(e.g., Operations Manager, Branch Manager, or Assistant General Manager).
-Demonstrated success within commercial building supplies, industrial wholesale, trade distribution, or contractor-focused big-box retail.
-A proactive, self-directed leader who walks the floor, spots operational gaps (counter bottlenecks, mis-staged orders, inventory variances), and takes immediate corrective action without waiting for direction.
-Experience leading teams through process improvements, transitioning informal workflows into structured SOPs, 5S visual standards, and KPI tracking.
-Proven ability to build team camaraderie, recruit, cross-train, and manage frontline performance across both entry-level and experienced staff.
-Proficient with ERP and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS); strong working knowledge of MS Excel for operational and inventory tracking.
