Randstad is proud to partner with an established industry leader in the perishable goods sector to recruit a seasoned Perishable Inventory Buyer. This is a critical, high-impact vacancy on their procurement team.
The "Ticking Time Bomb" Environment
...
In this industry, product doesn't sit on a shelf—it moves, or it spoils. You will work hand-in-hand with the internal Sales Team in a highly collaborative, fluid ecosystem. While the sales team drives revenue, the buying team pivots constantly based on real-time market shifts, weather patterns, and freight logistics. On this desk, crossover is common: buyers frequently assist with customer sales inquiries, and salespeople support procurement.
Advantages
Location: Edmonton, AB (In-Person / On-Site)
Position Type: Full-time, Monday–Friday
Hours: 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Industry: Perishable Goods & Agricultural Wholesale Distribution
Recruitment Partner: Randstad Canada
Compensation & Benefits: Competitive base salary, full health benefits package, and standard vacation package.
Stability: A stable, essential-industry business with a history of long-term employee retention.
The Essentials: Full on-site office setup provided
Responsibilities
Perishable Inventory Procurement: Source, negotiate, and purchase high-volume perishable inventory across shifting seasonal lines (including produce, floral, or fresh food items).
Geographic & Seasonal Sourcing:
Summer: Manage highly localized supply chains across Alberta, British Columbia, and Western Canada, maintaining close relationships with independent family-owned operations.
Winter: Seamlessly pivot procurement strategies to large-scale, corporate agricultural operations across the USA.
Vendor Management & Optimization: Maintain and respect the client’s existing lineup of preferred vendors while actively scouting the market. If you can find a better cost, higher quality, or more reliable fit, you are expected to bring them into the fold.
Logistics Crossover: Rely on your deep intrinsic knowledge of routes, regions, and supply chain logistics to ensure timely arrivals.
Qualifications
Perishable Industry Experience (Non-Negotiable): You must have direct procurement, buying, or logistics experience within fresh food, grocery, frozen, bakery, or floral sectors. You intimately understand the urgency of handling products with a limited shelf life.
Communication & Soft Skills
The Ultimate Communicator: You will be managing a heavy daily volume of phone calls, emails, and texts. You must be comfortable conducting fast-paced, high-stakes business over text message and phone.
Relationship-Driven: You know how to build iron-clad rapport over the phone first, with the long-term goal of fostering face-to-face partner relationships.
