We are seeking a qualified Product Safety Compliance Specialist to bring their expertise to the Engineering Compliance team. This role is crucial for ensuring that cutting-edge products meet strict global safety standards before they go to market. You will have the opportunity to conduct in-house product safety analysis, advise engineering on compliant design, and manage certification processes with external agencies on acceptable schedules.

The Product Safety Compliance Specialist is responsible for executing comprehensive product safety evaluations and managing the necessary testing and documentation to achieve certification with global agencies. This hands-on role ensures product designs adhere to required standards, contributing directly to product quality and market readiness.

Responsibilities
Conduct and Report Safety Evaluations:
Conduct product safety evaluations strictly as per the requirements of Certification Agencies and IEC/ISO 17025 standards.
Compile comprehensive report packages for submission to external Agencies.
Testing and Certification Management:
Host Agency witness testing and product construction reviews, managing any necessary follow-up updates.
Schedule and manage the testing process based on agreed-upon priorities, maintaining accurate testing schedules and status reports.
Write clear and accurate safety test procedures acceptable to Certification Agencies.
Standards and Equipment Maintenance:
Maintain current knowledge of the latest product safety requirements and test equipment applicable to the client's products (A/V, illumination technology).
Maintain test equipment, ensuring all calibration records are current and accurate.
Design, assemble, and maintain special test jigs as needed.
Design Support and Training:
Provide essential design recommendations to the Engineering team related to safety compliance.
Assist with compliance training for staff in other departments.
Administrative and Backup Support:
Provide backup support to the Compliance Coordinator to obtain quotes, create purchase requisitions, create shipping memos, pack samples, and liaise with third-party agencies to obtain product certifications.
Qualifications
Education: Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Experience: 2–5 years of hands-on experience in product safety testing and analysis.
Compliance Experience: Experience with scheduling product testing, standards interpretation, and detailed report documentation.
Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with sample preparation, product construction analysis, and test equipment operation.
Maintenance Skills: Experience troubleshooting and calibrating test equipment.
Training Skills: Experience training staff in testing standards and procedures.
P. Eng designation (an asset).
Experience working in an ISO 9001 certified organization.
Knowledge/experience with Audio-Visual (A/V) products.
