We are seeking an adaptable, dock-tested Forklift Operator on behalf of a leading North American transportation and logistics provider in Mississauga, ON (Dixie Rd & Aerowood Dr). This is a long-term temporary assignment combining equipment operation with essential hands-on freight duties, including order picking, packing, skid wrapping, and manual dock support.
...
Due to active open dock doors throughout the shift, candidates must be comfortable working in a terminal that gets cold during winter. Practical on-site forklift evaluations for this role take place between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
Position Type: Long-Term Temporary Assignment
Shift: Afternoon Shift (5:00 PM – ~1:00 AM / 1:30 AM)
Schedule: Full-Time (Frequent overtime available)
Starting Pay: $20.00 / hour (with room for rapid wage increases)
Environment: Fast-Paced Cross-Dock / Freight Terminal (Exposed to winter conditions due to open dock doors)
Advantages
Performance-Driven Pay Increases: Demonstrating hustle, dock versatility, and strong attendance earns fast wage bumps.
Consistent Overtime: Heavy freight volumes offer frequent overtime hours to significantly increase your take-home pay.
Long-Term Placement: Stable, long-term temporary assignment with a clear path into higher-level equipment operating or dock lead roles.
Dynamic Role: Engaging balance between driving machinery and active hands-on warehouse and dock tasks.
Responsibilities
Operate propane counterbalance units and general dock forklifts to offload, transport, and stage freight.
Execute warehouse labour tasks including picking orders, packing merchandise, and preparing cartons/skids for outbound shipping.
Step off the forklift to support active dock floor flow: wrap skids, re-stack unstable pallets, position dunnage, and sort misdirected freight.
Keep loading bays, ramps, and staging lanes clear of debris, broken boards, and trip hazards.
Perform routine daily equipment inspections and complete safe propane tank exchanges.
Qualifications
Valid Forklift Certification (Propane Counterbalance; experience with multiple dock machines is an asset).
Mandatory: Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience working directly on an active loading dock, freight terminal, or cross-dock facility.
Hands-on background in order picking, packing, and general dock labour.
Comfortable working in winter cross-dock conditions where open doors create cold drafts.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs periodically and work frequent overtime as freight volumes dictate.
Mandatory PPE: CSA-approved steel-toe safety footwear and high-visibility safety vest required.
Summary
If you bring 1+ years of solid loading dock experience and want a versatile, long-term temporary role combining forklift operation, order picking/packing, and dock coordination—backed by frequent overtime and rapid wage-progression potential—apply today for our immediate afternoon opening.
