Responsibilities
Quality Management System (QMS): Oversee and manage the organization-wide QMS. Approval is required from the Director of Quality for all Level 1 and 2 QMS document revisions. Level 3 and 4 documents may be standardized across all facilities where applicable (e.g., fast response procedures).
Standardization of Work: Develop and implement best practices for quality department operations across all locations. Ensure job descriptions, processes, and responsibilities are aligned and consistently applied.
Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP): Ensure APQP activities follow a standardized methodology, particularly in the development of Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, and PFMEAs. Utilize digital systems (e.g., ERP or MES platforms) for document development and integration.
Staffing: Participate in recruitment and selection of key quality personnel. Provide input into workforce planning and organizational structure for the quality function.
Scrap Code Management: Implement and maintain standardized scrap/rejection codes across all facilities to enable consistent reporting and analysis.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Define and track KPIs to measure the effectiveness of the QMS. Work collaboratively with each facility to set targets, with final approval from the Director of Quality.
Customer Engagement: Support site visits and audits by customers when needed, and assist with the resolution of quality concerns and complaints.
Participate in hiring decisions in collaboration with Human Resources and according to organizational policy.
Approve work schedules for corporate quality personnel in compliance with labour regulations.
Approve travel requests and expenses in accordance with corporate travel policies.
Approve purchase orders related to quality tools, inspection equipment, standards, and other related expenses through designated procurement systems.
Manage the performance of direct reports, including performance reviews, training recommendations, and career development planning.
Approve changes to QMS documents and systems.
Key Stakeholders
CEO: Provide regular updates on quality metrics and strategic support for resolving complex quality issues.
Customers: Maintain strong relationships with customer quality representatives to address complaints, launch readiness, and compliance matters.
Suppliers: Collaborate with supplier representatives to ensure quality compliance and resolve issues during production or program launches.
Sales & Business Development: Coordinate on customer feedback and support new product or program initiatives.
Legal Counsel: Engage legal resources when managing sensitive or escalated customer requirements.
Internal Teams: Foster a collaborative and quality-focused culture across all departments.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or Business
Master’s degree in Engineering or an MBA – Preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a quality leadership role within the automotive or manufacturing sector
Proven leadership skills and ability to guide cross-functional teams.
Strong time management and budgeting capabilities.
Excellent verbal and written communication.
Ability to manage competing priorities and drive results.
Self-starter with high accountability and discipline.
Strong knowledge of quality systems, audits, compliance, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Familiarity with production environments and inspection standards.
Knowledge of occupational health and safety policies.
Proficiency in English (bilingualism in French is an asset).
Willingness and ability to travel as required.
