Responsibilities
Manual Machining: Set up and operate conventional/manual equipment including manual lathes, milling machines, saws, and general shop support equipment.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and precisely interpret dimensional requirements, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), blueprints, and technical drawings.
Setup Mastery: Prepare intricate setups, select appropriate tooling/inserts, and accurately indicate and zero parts.
Process Optimization: Calculate and select optimal speeds and feeds based on material types and tooling specifications.
Quality Assurance: Measure and inspect completed components using precision tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to ensure strict adherence to tight tolerances, documenting results on inspection sheets.
Reporting & Communication: Promptly report any material defects, deviations, or equipment issues to the Team Leader or Supervisor.
Shop Stewardship: Maintain and clean machinery regularly, actively participating in 5S shop organization and safety standards.
ERP Logging: Accurately record labor time, material tracking, and job details using the QAD ERP system.
Qualifications
Certification: Interprovincial Red Seal Certification as a Machinist is required.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in a fast-paced machine shop environment, with a proven track record in manual machining.
Technical Skills: Expert proficiency in manual lathe and mill operation, setup, and teardown.
CNC Asset: Prior experience operating or setting up CNC machinery is considered a strong asset but is not required.
Precision: Highly proficient in reading blueprints and utilizing standard precision measuring instruments.
Autonomy: Proven ability to work independently on advanced, low-tolerance tasks with minimal supervision.
Core Attributes: Strong problem-solving skills, sharp attention to detail, and solid verbal/written communication skills.
Compliance: Legally permitted to work full-time in British Columbia and possesses personal steel-toe safety boots.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs regularly.
Comfortable working actively in a manufacturing/machining shop environment.
Safe operation of overhead gantry and jib cranes (training will be provided).
Capability to stand, bend, and engage in physical activity throughout an 8-hour shift.
Flexibility to work planned and occasional incidental overtime as production demands require.
