Responsibilities
Work Assignment Overview
Develop safe engineering solutions by using initiative and judgement to perform tasks including developing designs, analyzing and resolving problems, and interpreting engineering specifications on medium complexity and scope assignments for projects and operations.
* Assist project or operations management to meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by proposing changes in plans and estimated costs, recommending payment for work completed by contractors, preparing progress reports, coordinating work schedules and other similar tasks.
* Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering problems by conducting independent studies and analysis, exercising independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information, recommending safe engineering designs to support successful operations and/or project completion.
* Participate in engineering practice by conducting independent studies and analysis, contributing to the development of technical standards, exercising judgment in selecting and interpreting information, recommending safe engineering designs, and making decisions related to methods and designs as well as providing guidance and advice to other engineering professionals to develop future capability.
* Prepare work package agreements, design basis, design plan, and other project engineering deliverables.
* Chair project design meetings, ensuring deliverables and action items are being met and capturing and distributing meeting minutes in a timely manor.
* Proactively ensure that engineering deliverables are being met, anticipating challenges and roadblocks that may affect project performance.
Qualifications
An Engineering degree in a relevant discipline such as electrical, civil, structural, or mechanical recognized by Canadian Universities.
* A minimum of ten (10) years of utility engineering experience including significant time working on electrical substation projects.
* Four (4+) years or more of project engineering or project management experience either in a formal capacity or while acting as a lead engineer or work package manager.
* Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
* Good working experience in leading multi-discipline design teams in protection, control, and telecom systems.
* Must have PMP certification.
* Solid electric utility engineering background with the ability to think from a transmission system and operations perspective as well as an ability to understand the interactions and priorities of multi-discipline projects
* Expert knowledge of project management principles and roles.
* Good working knowledge of design and transmission lines is an asset
* Excellent relationship management skills.
* Exceptional written and oral communication skills with an ability to present key project information to both technical and non-technical audiences
* Good technical knowledge of substation design, transmission lines and interconnections.
* Be able to build and maintain strong relationships and high levels of engagement with Project Managers and Delivery Partners
