Work Assignment Requirements
The specific duties for this position include the following, but not limited to:
* Prepare signed and sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and BC Hydro design practices.
* Provide design study reports outlining alternatives, cost estimates and recommended solutions for various telecommunication requirements.
* Prepare technical specifications for equipment supply.
* Prepare test plans and commissioning documents for the evaluation and testing of various telecom equipment.
* Prepare design documents for permitting/licensing.
* Provide design documents and inputs as required by the BC Hydro Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS) requirements.
* Develop and maintain design documentation, including installation design drawing templates, Engineering Standards, material masters, settings and configuration, construction and configuration requirements, Telecom general drawings, and related databases.
* Provide design calculations, drawings and other installation and circuit implementation documentation for the construction of telecom infrastructure including microwave radio links, fiber optic networks, WiMAX radio network, C band/Ku band satellite communications, Power Line Carrier links, LTE, leased facilities, IP/MPLS networks, Digital cross-connect switches, SONET multiplexer, Tetra/VHF/UHF mobile radio, teleprotection, and -48 VDC power systems.
* Provide to and coordinate requirements with other engineering disciplines to support the telecom solution.
* Prepare bill of materials, order materials and services, and coordinate staging and testing of equipment racks prior to shipping for installation.
* Conduct peer reviews and, as “Owner’s Engineer,” review external service providers’ engineering designs to ensure technical compliance to BC Hydro Standards, good design practices and constructability requirements.
* Coordinate and support all installation and commissioning activities for the successful implementation of the Telecom solution.
* Undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.
* Provide other project design deliverables as required by BC Hydro project delivery process.
* Provide troubleshooting support to the field and control center operators during system disturbance events.
* May be assigned as a project engineer accountable for the overall planning, delivery and technical integration/coordination of multi-discipline or cross-functional team design work packages, for identifying dependencies with other projects and for leading concurrent project team discussions to resolve potential conflicts.
* May be assigned as a work package manager who would create and manage the work package deliverables, resources, budget and schedule and provide progress reports and work forecasts.
* Fulfill other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Professional Engineer with 8 years+ of Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering and Project Management experience in Telecommunication/Utility Industries Engineering design experience in IP/MPLS, SONET, Microwave, Antennas and tower, grounding, and 5G mobility, etc. High self-motivation, interpersonal skills, and serious commitment to serve customer and work satisfaction.
Must have university degree in Electrical Engineering and registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in BC or other Provinces/Territories of Canada.
Must have experience in dealing with multiple tasks and setting and meeting competing deadlines.
Must have well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Must have proven ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external clients and stakeholders.
Must have good understanding of project and task management processes.
Must have prior engineering design experience with IP/MPLS, DACS, SONET, Microwave, Site Selections, antennas and tower, grounding, and other telecom technologies.
Telecom engineering design or support experience for Substation is an asset
