Responsibilities
The SAP ABAP Development Specialist will be responsible for:
- Development & Unit Testing: Designing, documenting, developing, and performing unit testing for all required RICEFW development objects in both SAP S/4HANA and SAP ECC, adhering to current best practices.
- SDLC Participation: Participating in all aspects of the SDLC, including initiation, requirements gathering, design, testing, implementation, and maintenance of SAP applications.
- Code Quality & Review: Performing code and Quality Assurance (QA) reviews for both client and System Integrator code, using tools like ABAP Test Cockpit or Code Inspector.
- S/4HANA Techniques: Utilizing modern SAP development techniques, including Gateway Service Builder (SEGW), Core Data Services (CDS), and ABAP RESTful Application Programming Model (RAP).
- Integration Development: Designing and implementing integrations between S/4HANA/ECC and other systems using IDocs and APIs (OData, REST, SOAP), with knowledge of middleware (CI iFlows) considered an asset.
- Coaching & Knowledge Transfer: Providing mentoring, coaching, and knowledge sharing sessions for development techniques (including RICEFW, Eclipse ADT, BAS, Gitlab) to upskill the internal development team for sustainment.
- Documentation: Fully documenting all development deliverables, including technical specifications, technical unit tests, and run procedures.
- Support & Sustainment: Supporting defect investigation and remediation during testing cycles and designing processes/procedures (e.g., error handling, monitoring) required to sustain development objects within operations.
- Reporting: Reporting status, highlighting risks and issues, and providing recommendations to streamline development.
Qualifications
Must-Have Experience:
- A minimum of 10+ years hands-on experience in ABAP Development (including ABAP Objects and ABAP 7.4/7.5 Syntax) spanning the full RICEFW development spectrum in both SAP S/4HANA and SAP ECC.
- Extensive experience performing and managing the full SDLC for development deliverables, including comprehensive documentation and knowledge transfer.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, and sharing knowledge with developers using tools like Eclipse ADT and assisting with upskilling across various RICEFW development and modern tools.
- Experience providing subject matter expertise during requirements gathering, design, and functional specification review.
- Experience using project/change management tools such as SAP Solution Manager, Jira, or HPQC.
- Demonstrated experience in core SAP Modules: FI, CO, FM, GM, TRM, MM, and SD.
Strong technical capabilities in:
- Integration (IDocs, APIs - OData, REST/SOAP).
- Modern S/4HANA Development (CDS, RAP, Gateway Service Builder).
- Enhancements (BADi’s, Exits, BTE’s, etc.) and Forms (SAP Adobe forms).
- Code Quality (ABAP Test Cockpit/Code Inspector) and Code/QA reviews.
Desired Skills (Assets):
- Development related certification.
- Experience with Cloud Integration (CI) iFlows or other middleware, and Application Interface Framework (AIF).
- Experience with Fiori application development, Business Application Studio (BAS), and Gitlab.
