The Senior Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, bank reconciliations, tax compliance, and operational support for a portfolio of entities. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple recurring deadlines. The Senior Accountant will review and investigate the current state of the accounting records, identify gaps, and bring all records and processes up to date. They will work closely with the Accounting Manager, banks, and external accountants to ensure accurate financial reporting and efficient operations.

Responsibilities
- Period-End Management: Manage the entire period-end close process, including reviewing journal entries and performing/reviewing bank reconciliations.
- Account Reconciliation: Review and maintain monthly and annual reconciliations for all accounts, including balance sheet accounts and complex intercompany accounts.
- GL Integrity & Control: Ensure the integrity of the General Ledger (GL), proactively identifying and preventing discrepancies.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare accurate financial statements and perform insightful financial analysis.
- Compliance & Tax Filings: Manage various statutory reporting requirements and ensure timely completion of tax filings and overall compliance.
- Audit Coordination: Act as the primary liaison for external auditors, heavily involved in all aspects of year-end audit activities.
- Cash Flow Forecasting: Prepare and maintain a detailed weekly cash flow forecast.
- Debt & Lease Administration: Prepare working papers for bank loan renewals (including interest calculations) and manage tenant/lease administration tasks like rent rolls and TNet reconciliations (as applicable).
- Process Documentation & Improvement: Maintain monthly checklists, procedures, controls, and signoffs, and actively assist in continuous improvement activities within the finance function.
- Ad Hoc Support: Perform bookkeeping for other group entities as necessary and fulfill other reporting and ad hoc requests.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years in a Senior Accountant or Assistant Controller capacity, preferably in a deadline-driven environment (experience in property management is an asset).
- ERP experience is an asset; solid knowledge of Microsoft Office; excellent proficiency in Excel in particular.
- Experience in complex multi-entity environments.
- Excellent interpersonal and superior communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP and full-cycle accounting.
- Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy and the ability to multi-task.
- Organized, self-driven, reliable, analytical thinking, and able to carry out tasks autonomously and collaboratively.
