Responsibilities
The Senior Business Intelligence Specialist will be responsible for:
- Translating user requirements into a Cognos BI business model and Framework Manager models. Designing and implementing the BI security model, metadata, user groups, and folder structure.
- Developing and optimizing Cognos reports and dashboards on Cloud Pak for Data and AWS Redshift. This includes expertise in Cognos Analytics v12.x features like reporting, dashboarding, embedded JavaScript, and embedded SQL.
- Creating and tuning SQL/PLSQL processes for complex logic and performance optimization, with experience in Oracle 19 or higher.
- Testing, debugging, and re-engineering reports. Documenting test cases for functionality validation and applying strong Cognos testing skills.
- Supporting UAT, deployment, and providing training or demos for self-service BI reporting.
- Preparing scripts and documentation for data preparation, performance checks, and monitoring. Delivering knowledge transfer and detailed documentation to staff as per project requirements.
- Applying experience with Agile/Scrum and Waterfall methodologies, using tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
Qualifications
Must-Have Experience:
- In-depth knowledge and experience with Cognos report development in Cognos Analytics v12.x (reporting, dashboarding, embedded JavaScript, embedded SQL).
- Experience in Cognos Analytics reporting; modeling with Framework Manager, Dynamic Cube Designer, Data Module, Dataset, SDK.
- Experience in Oracle 19 or higher including writing complex SQL/PL SQL queries and materialized views.
- Experience in AWS Cloud technologies, specifically AWS Redshift.
- Experience developing Cognos reports in the IBM Cloud Pak for Data environment.
- Experience in database performance and tuning skills.
- Excellent requirements analysis skills and strong interpersonal skills to interact with client stakeholders.
Desired Skills (Assets):
- Experience working in the Public Sector and familiarity with I&IT project management processes.
- Demonstrated experience in working with Power Designer Tool to design logical and physical models.
- Knowledge of BI architecture patterns, best practices, processes, and artefacts.
