Responsibilities
-Manage contracts for mining operations, including equipment supply, maintenance services, and labor, ensuring compliance with terms and mining regulations.
-Work with mine managers, engineers, and contractors to align contract deliverables with production schedules and operational needs.
-Identify and mitigate risks related to contract performance, supply chain disruptions, or safety violations, escalating critical issues to leadership.
-Maintain precise records of contracts, amendments, change orders, and safety compliance documentation specific to mining operations.
-Monitor contract-related expenses (e.g., equipment rentals, drilling services), ensuring alignment with mine budgets and production targets.
-Act as the key contact for contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies, ensuring clear communication on operational and contractual matters.
-Ensure all contracted work adheres to mine safety standards (e.g., MSHA or provincial equivalents) and environmental regulations.
-Address contract disputes or performance gaps swiftly, minimizing downtime and operational impacts.
Qualifications
-Minimum of 5–7 years in contract management, with at least 3 years in the mining industry.
-Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, diploma in contract management may substitute with sufficient experience.
-Excellent verbal and written skills, with experience drafting reports and presenting to stakeholders
-Proven track record overseeing contracts for operational phases (e.g., extraction, processing, or equipment maintenance) in a producing mine.
-Deep understanding of mining-specific contracts, including terms for heavy equipment (e.g., haul trucks, drills), service agreements (e.g., blasting, maintenance), and labor outsourcing.
-Familiarity with cost structures like cost-per-tonne or cost-per-meter-drilled.
-Working knowledge of Canadian mining regulations, such as:
The Mining Act (provincial variations, e.g., Ontario).
Federal environmental standards (e.g., Fisheries Act).
Safety frameworks (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act or provincial equivalents).
