þ Schedule: 40 hrs/wk, flexible within core business hours
þ Physical Environment: Hybrid Position – mix of working from home, the local Thales office, and at the waterfront onboard DND vessels.
þ Travel: Occasional / infrequent domestic travel may be required to support the vessels.
Ideally, the candidate would be located in Halifax. However, given the unique skillset required, we are flexible and will consider candidates located elsewhere in Canada who are willing to travel.
The initial contract duration is approximately 18 months, with the possibility of extension.
Clearance requirement : Trade, Controlled Goods and NATO clearance ( can start with reliability)
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
· Provide expert guidance on the selection, installation, and operation of marine cranes in various offshore and maritime environments.
· Develop and implement maintenance strategies and procedures to optimize crane performance and lifespan.
· Collaborate with engineering and operational teams to design and refine crane systems, ensuring they meet project requirements and safety standards.
· Identify the Requirement Set applicable to 3T & 20T Crane systems in support of an RFP (Request for Proposal).
· Develop and derive requirement sets for marine crane systems.
· Assess bids for technical compliance, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
· Participate in System Requirement Reconciliation (SRR) activities to achieve baseline project requirement sets.
· Develop IVVQ (Integration, Verification, Validation, and Qualification) plans for baseline requirement sets.
· Serve as a technical advisor during project planning phases, assisting with risk assessments and safety evaluations.
· Write and contribute to technical documentation, including reports, manuals, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
· Assure compliance of engineering work packages with applicable standards including SOLAS, Classification Society, and ILO;
· Support the preparation of technical proposals and cost estimates for Customer approval;

Speciality Engineer (SPE) 6.1 DDQ - Design Develop and Qualify the Solution
Qualifications
The candidate must meet each of the following criteria:
· Bachelor’s degree or Technical diploma in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
· 10+ years of experience working with Marine/Offshore Cranes.
· Proven experience with all phases of the design cycle and implementation of cranes on a marine platform.
· Strong background in requirements development and IVVQ (Integration, Verification, Validation, and Qualification) of cranes.
· In-depth knowledge of marine crane technologies, operational practices, and safety legislation.
Preferred Qualifications
· Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia, Ontario, or British Columbia, Canada;
· Experience working within the certification and design regimes of SOLAS/IMO, CSA, Class Society, and DND regulations;
· Previous experience with Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard;
· Experience in delivering marine in-service support of operational assets;
