Responsibilities
- Support the migration of database products to the Azure Cloud platform, managing both IaaS and PaaS environments.
- Proactively monitor system activity daily using SQL Management Studio and respond to incidents or performance bottlenecks.
- Design, execute, and analyze database expansions, reorganizations, and data purging strategies.
- Architect and support all databases throughout the development and testing lifecycles.
- Lead long-range planning for database administration, including capacity statistics analysis and verification processes.
- Manage SQL Server builds and provide technical leadership to business representatives and stakeholders.
- Execute robust backup and recovery processes to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
- Perform deep-dive problem analysis and resolution for complex issues such as deadlocks and application recoveries.
- Implement cybersecurity vulnerability remediations and maintain SQL Server security architecture, including Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).
Qualifications
- 7–9 years of proven experience with SQL Server (both Azure and on-premises) across Windows and Linux.
- At least 5 years of experience managing Azure Synapse Analytics, including dedicated pools, Data Lake, and Serverless architectures.
- Strong experience with Azure Managed Instance and Azure SQL Database.
- Demonstrated ability to perform advanced performance tuning and analysis in Microsoft SQL environments.
- Must hold MS Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900), Azure Data Fundamentals (DP-900), and Administering Microsoft Azure SQL Solutions (DP-300).
- Deep understanding of SQL Server authentication, encryption, and backup/recovery within Azure subscriptions and resource groups.
- Proven ability to provide technical leadership, conduct impact analysis, and handle implementation planning for enterprise-level releases.
- Experience within the Public Sector and knowledge of Information Management principles and Ontario Government Enterprise Architecture processes.
