, and application models. Operating within a highly secure cloud environment, you will engineer biometric pipeline frameworks—including enrollment pathways, mathematical template management structures, 1:1 verification, and 1:N identification pipelines—ensuring absolute system precision, top-tier processing speeds, and strict data governance compliance.
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid - 2 to 3 days onsite, subject to change)
Duration: 12-month contract.
Advantages
Elite Pioneering Mandate: Take a defining technical role in architecting cutting-edge, high-security biometrics and facial recognition architectures.
End-to-End Enterprise Impact: Command deep technical autonomy over the system lifecycle—from logical blueprinting to physical cloud execution and performance tuning.
Specialized Security Profile: Master a high-value niche crossing distributed Azure cloud engineering with advanced mathematical template matching, identity management, and stringent public safety compliance.
Collaborative Senior Track: Act as the premier technical authority driving alignment across enterprise architects, security testers, and senior stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Biometric Blueprinting & Solution Design: Define, model, and author comprehensive functional and technical specifications for facial recognition and biometric system components, mapping out explicit solution architectures from concept to production.
Cloud Infrastructure Implementation: Architect and support the implementation of highly secure facial recognition and biometric matching capabilities natively within an enterprise Microsoft Azure cloud framework.
Pipeline Workflow Engineering: Advise on and design key architectural pipelines for identity systems, including automated data enrollment, secure template vector extraction, template hashing, 1:1 verification, and 1:N algorithmic matching workflows.
Compliance & Privacy Engineering: Oversee and review structural security and privacy evaluations (including PIA, TRA, and Penetration Testing frameworks), enforcing strict data protection controls, explicit consent workflows, and specialized auditing measures tailored specifically for sensitive biometric data.
Architecture Governance (EA Checkpoints): Build, review, and present comprehensive Enterprise Architecture artifacts, ensuring absolute logical and physical architecture traceability across all corporate governance gates and checkpoints.
Interface & Data Schema Modeling: Design and modify technical user interfaces, specialized screen states, and logical data models specifically tailored for data collection, storage, and biometric verification.
Performance Tuning & Accuracy Validation: Establish precise data evaluation matrices, review end-to-end testing scenarios, and monitor biometric accuracy threshold criteria—specifically analyzing and mitigating False Match Rates (FMR) and False Non-Match Rates (FNMR).
Process Flow Visualizations: Produce detailed visual use cases, behavioral scenarios, and complex system data flows to bridge alignment between program divisions, engineering squads, and senior executive boards.
Testing & UAT Advisory Support: Partner closely with Quality Assurance teams to guide systems integration, biometric performance evaluations, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
Qualifications
Core Systems Architecture Seniority: 8+ years of progressive professional experience serving as a Technology Architect, Systems Engineer, or Lead Solution Designer on complex, multi-tiered enterprise application networks.
Biometrics & Facial Recognition Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience designing and modeling biometric matching applications, specifically managing enrollment systems, template management engines, 1:1 verification, and 1:N identification workflows.
Azure Cloud Engineering Acumen: Demonstrated experience implementing and optimizing high-performance, secure software capabilities within a Microsoft Azure cloud environment.
Accuracy Metrics Framework Literacy: Strong background validating biometric performance criteria, establishing traceability matrices, and analyzing underlying mathematical errors (such as False Match Rates and False Non-Match Rates).
Enterprise Architecture & Modeling Skills: Expert-level capability to produce low-level technical specifications, logical/physical reference models, visual use cases, and complex process data flows.
Security & Privacy Governance Exposure: Practical understanding of preparing system data for Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA), Threat Risk Assessments (TRA), and Penetration Testing, with a strong focus on heightened data protection rules for biological identity vectors.
Soft Skills: Outstanding consultative, facilitation, and verbal/written communication skills, with a proven track record of translating complex algorithmic or architectural constraints into clear documentation for cross-functional project teams.
Nice to Have:
Prior professional software architecture or systems engineering experience operating within Canadian law enforcement agencies, public safety environments, or the broader Ontario Public Service (OPS).
