Responsibilities
- Design and develop new programs or enhancements using COBOL and DB2 (with occasional IMS database interaction) within an IBM Mainframe environment.
- Create and lead walkthroughs for Systems Response documents, Technical Specifications, and Implementation Plans. Ensure all code is modular, well-structured, and maintainable.
- Specialize in the coding and maintenance of architected payment programs, ensuring accuracy and high-performance in high-volume batch processing.
- Prepare comprehensive test plans and test data. Perform rigorous unit testing and support team-wide testing efforts and results walkthroughs.
- Troubleshoot production incidents and respond to complex client queries to ensure system stability and minimal downtime.
- Maintain and update critical documentation, including system manuals and payment architecture overviews.
- Facilitate the transfer of technical skills and system knowledge to internal staff through mentoring and documentation.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience as a COBOL developer in an MVS environment writing programs that access DB2 and IMS databases.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining large-scale IT systems, specifically high-volume batch programs.
- Deep understanding of relational database technology and structured design methodologies.
- Ability to analyze and update legacy COBOL code and translate complex business requirement documents (BRD) into technical solutions.
- Proven success in writing system design, implementation, and promotion documents.
- Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
