Responsibilities
- Mission-Critical Support: Provide 24x7 onsite and remote support for emergency ambulance dispatching equipment, including CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch), radio, phone, and GIS.
- Telecommunications Engineering: Manage and troubleshoot diverse systems including VHF/UHF Radio, P25 standards, satellite systems, and digital voice recording.
- Infrastructure Management: Coordinate the administration of desktop and server environments (Windows Domain, DHCP, WINS, and IP addressing) within Ambulance Communication Centres (ACCs).
- Technical Consultation: Serve as a subject matter expert for multiple technology projects, offering realistic work estimates, capturing business requirements, and developing training materials for users and vendors.
- Field Coordination: Travel to provincial dispatch centres to coordinate the remediation of telephony and radio hardware as part of the implementation of new network solutions.
- Diagnostic Leadership: Use specialized Radio Frequency (RF) test equipment (wattmeters, voltmeters, system analyzers) to diagnose and resolve hardware and network interface issues.
Qualifications
- Core Technical Expertise: Extensive practical experience in voice, data, radio, and satellite telecommunications engineering. A technical diploma or degree in electronics technology is highly preferred.
- Networking Mastery: Deep knowledge of LAN topologies, server configurations, and Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) solutions like Avaya.
- Public Safety Knowledge: Understanding of emergency health services operations, including the interface between ambulance, police, and fire communications.
- RF & Hardware Skills: Proficiency with basic vehicle electrical systems relative to radio installation and the use of system monitors and analyzers.
- Process Knowledge: Familiarity with ITIL practices (incident, problem, and change management) and the ability to work within government policy frameworks (e.g., PHIPA, Land Ambulance Act).
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills to translate complex technical requirements into business cases and status reports.
