and-subscribe architectures driven by FHIR Subscription and SubscriptionTopic standards. Leveraging advanced expertise across API automation tools (Postman, NextGen API testing tools, ngrok), HL7 v2, NextGen Connect (Mirth), and SMART on FHIR single-page applications, you will develop comprehensive master test strategies, coordinate multi-system test environments, manage defect lifecycles, and deliver evidence-based release recommendations across mission-critical digital health workflows.
Location: Toronto, ON (Onsite on an as-needed basis)
Duration: 4-month contract.
Advantages
Cutting-Edge Health Standards: Lead end-to-end test strategies centered on FHIR Subscription and SubscriptionTopic event-driven specifications.
Modern API Automation: Direct hands-on automation leveraging Postman, NextGen API testing tools, and ngrok-hosted callback endpoints.
Complete System Traceability: Oversee quality assurance spanning backend integration engines, asynchronous queues, and modern SMART on FHIR React frontends.
Flexible Onsite Schedule: Benefit from a collaborative model with onsite presence required in Toronto only on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain comprehensive test strategies, master test plans, scope estimates, environment requirements, risk-based coverage models, and release exit criteria.
Maintain end-to-end requirements traceability matrices connecting business workflows, technical specifications, automated test suites, defect logs, and sign-off records.
Design, build, automate, and execute robust API test suites for publish-and-subscribe architectures, external callbacks, rest-hook delivery, event retrieval, and queue-based processing.
Validate asynchronous event processing, focusing on correlation IDs, message ordering, concurrency, idempotency, retry mechanisms, duplicate event handling, dead-letter queues, and disaster recovery.
Conduct rigorous verification of FHIR Subscription, SubscriptionTopic, notification Bundles, resource schemas, filter parameters, lifecycle transitions, and conformance rules.
Test NextGen Connect integration channels and HL7 v2 messaging pipelines, validating message transformations, routing logic, acknowledgements, error handling, and interface recovery.
Lead functional, integration, regression, cross-browser, and accessibility testing for React single-page applications utilizing SMART on FHIR workflows and sandboxes (e.g., MELD, Epic Launchpad).
Coordinate end-to-end integration testing across clinical applications, eReferral systems, central registries, and downstream consumer endpoints.
Manage test environments, mock data setups, privacy-safe data sanitization, test stubs, and service virtualization across participating teams and vendors.
Lead daily defect triage meetings, analyze root causes with development teams, track retesting efforts, generate quality metric dashboards, and deliver formal release completion reports.
Qualifications
Public Sector Health Experience: Mandatory, proven quality assurance and testing leadership experience within a public sector digital health environment (Strictly Required).
Senior Test Leadership: Senior-level experience guiding test strategy, master planning, estimation, risk-based coverage, defect triage, quality metrics, and release recommendations for complex enterprise healthcare programs (Strictly Required).
Pub/Sub API Automation: Demonstrated hands-on API automation experience testing publish-and-subscribe and asynchronous event workflows using Postman, NextGen API testing tools, and ngrok, with proven coverage of callbacks, idempotency, retries, duplicate events, and replay logic (Strictly Required).
FHIR, REST & NextGen Connect (HL7 v2): Comprehensive testing experience validating FHIR resources (Subscription, SubscriptionTopic, notification Bundles, filters, lifecycle states) alongside HL7 v2 message transformations, routing, and error scenarios in NextGen Connect (Strictly Required).
SMART on FHIR & React Testing: Proven experience testing React single-page applications and end-to-end clinical workflows utilizing SMART on FHIR sandboxes (e.g., MELD, Epic Launchpad), digital health assets, and eReferral platforms, including accessibility and regression validation (Strictly Required).
Nice-to-Have Assets:
Hands-on experience testing FHIR R4/R4B resources, conformance profiles, and implementation guides.
Practical knowledge of integrating automated test suites into CI/CD build and deployment pipelines.
Familiarity with service virtualization, stubbing frameworks, and synthetic test-data generation tools.
