Software Development Manager - Mobile Team
Location: Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada (ONSITE)
Company Overview
...
Our client is an industry leader in the health and wellness technology space, developing a highly accurate, comprehensive tracking application. They empower millions of users to make informed decisions about their health and lifestyle with data they can trust. With a growing product ecosystem across mobile, web, data analytics, coaching, and professional use cases, they build tools that help individuals understand their habits and optimize their long-term wellness.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Software Development Manager to lead our client's Mobile Development Team. This is not a role for someone who only wants to manage tickets, run ceremonies, or stay safely distanced from the product.
The mobile application is the primary gateway through which most users experience our client's platform. It is the intersection of core data logging, subscriptions, coaching features, device integrations, accessibility, and overall product quality. The individual in this role will lead the team responsible for making that experience fast, reliable, polished, and valuable for global users.
You do not need to be the best Flutter developer on the team. However, you must be technical enough to earn the team’s trust, ask insightful questions, understand architectural trade-offs, and guide better engineering decisions. You should operate comfortably in the space between people leadership, product execution, technical delivery, release management, and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities (What you’ll do)
Team Leadership & Delivery: Lead and develop a team of software developers working on the client's core mobile application. Improve delivery systems, processes, and team habits to ensure output is predictable, high-quality, and sustainable.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product, Design, QA, Customer Support, Marketing, and Staff Engineers to transform product concepts into well-shaped, beautifully executed mobile experiences. Clarify scope, identify risks early, and make trade-offs explicit to prevent late-stage release surprises.
Release & Pipeline Management: Own the health of the Mobile team’s delivery system, including project planning, release readiness, PR flow, QA coordination, production quality, operational issues, and team capacity. Manage mobile-specific release realities such as App Store reviews, staged rollouts, platform constraints, backwards compatibility, analytics, and crash monitoring.
Mentorship & Growth: Coach engineers through technical and professional growth. Support strong individual contributors in taking on more ownership, help newer developers build technical judgment, and foster a transparent, respectful feedback culture. Delegate intentionally to empower others and avoid becoming a delivery bottleneck.
Requirements (About you)
Leadership Experience: 3+ years of experience leading software developers as an Engineering Manager, Software Development Manager, Tech Lead Manager, or in a senior technical leadership role with direct people management responsibilities.
People Management: Comfortable managing experienced developers. Proven ability to create clarity without micromanaging, challenge technical teams constructively, and translate ambiguous concerns into concrete expectations.
Technical Depth: Possess sufficient technical depth to participate actively in architectural and delivery discussions. While you may not write production code daily, you can confidently navigate code reviews, release risks, platform constraints, testing strategies, observability gaps, and speed-versus-quality trade-offs.
Mobile Ecosystem Expertise: Experience delivering user-facing software. Mobile experience is strongly preferred, particularly with iOS, Android, Flutter, React Native, or another production mobile stack. Familiarity with App Store / Play Store release pipelines, staged rollouts, crash reporting, mobile analytics, accessibility, or subscription flows is highly valuable.
Product Quality Focus: Deeply care about the user experience. You notice when technically “done” work is not fully ready for the end-user, understanding that polish, edge cases, performance, and clear user flows are core components of engineering quality.
Adaptability: Comfortable navigating organizational growth, evolving processes, and modern engineering practices (including AI-assisted development) while maintaining a strict bar for correctness, maintainability, security, and user trust.
Compensation And Benefits
Employee bonus program
Comprehensive health and dental benefits
Employee Stock Option Plan (ESOP)
RRSP Matching
3 weeks paid time off (PTO)
Company mobile phone + subsidized phone plan
Flexible working schedule
A fun, collaborative environment filled with professionals passionate about health tech and innovation
Summary of Anonymization Changes
To safeguard client confidentiality, the following modifications were executed:
Brand Protection: Removed all direct mentions of the proprietary company name and replaced it with generic industry markers ("Our client", "[The Client]").
Geographic Generalization: Broadened the specific municipality in British Columbia to a province-wide region to mask the exact headquarters location.
Niche De-identification: Sanitized highly specific domain language (such as unique niche application tracking types) into broader industry terms ("health and wellness technology space") to prevent identity deduction via search engines.
Culture/Perk Smoothing: Modified specific lifestyle perks that heavily hinted at the original geographic location, refocusing the text on professional collaboration and tech innovation.
