Responsibilities
Perform root cause analysis on safety, production, and quality issues; lead or support the implementation of corrective actions.
Lead or support Focus Cell initiatives to improve equipment performance using fault data analysis and structured problem-solving methods.
Provide direction and technical guidance to Maintenance team members during major repairs or project work.
Coordinate with Maintenance, Production, and Production Control teams to schedule improvements, enhancements, and Kaizen activities.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and initiate process optimization strategies.
Apply engineering principles to optimize press operations, including stroke-per-minute (SPM) performance, line balancing, error-proofing, and scrap reduction in line with lean manufacturing practices.
Develop cost-saving proposals related to production and maintenance materials and processes.
Production Engineering, New Model Launches, and Engineering Changes (ECIs)
Develop process plans for newly awarded parts and determine requirements for equipment, processes, and production capacity.
Identify and implement equipment modifications required for engineering changes or process improvements.
Plan and oversee the commissioning of new dies, including delivery schedules, trial timelines, and review of CAE and design data.
Update plant layouts in response to current and anticipated die and coil demands; collaborate with Logistics and Production teams to optimize material flow and team member efficiency.
Lead model launch teams to achieve project goals and timelines.
Develop equipment and tooling concepts, and prepare specifications for supplier bidding and design.
Prepare technical specifications, obtain bids, issue purchase orders, and manage supplier contracts.
Coordinate permit applications and approvals from regulatory authorities such as the Ministry of Environment, Electrical Safety Authority, and TSSA.
Secure Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews to ensure compliance with OHSA standards.
Produce technical designs, drawings, and documentation for equipment installations using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
Oversee contractors and tradespeople during project execution; provide orientation, training, and enforce safety protocols.
Supervise co-op students and manage engineering task priorities within the department.
Support and contribute to the client’s environmental policies and initiatives. Identify and report any potential environmental non-conformities.
Follow documented procedures related to the environmental impact of job activities and understand the implications of non-compliance.
Demonstrate familiarity with the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (EPRP).
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
3+ years of experience in an automotive manufacturing engineering role.
Proactive and self-driven with strong initiative for systems and process improvement.
Knowledge of cold/hot stamping, robotics, metallurgy, and automation controls is an asset.
Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
Willingness to work overtime when required.
Proficient in root cause analysis for complex problems.
Capable of independently managing projects from concept to completion.
Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
