We are seeking a highly accomplished Technical Architecture Specialist for an enterprise-level contract opportunity based in Toronto. In this role, you will take on a premier disaster recovery architecture, infrastructure resilience, and enterprise continuity capacity, specializing in designing, validating, and sustaining high-availability recovery solutions across complex multi-tier environments.
...
As a Technical Architecture Specialist, you will bridge the gap between application owners, infrastructure leads, cybersecurity specialists, solution architects, and executive management. Operating within a hybrid work model in Toronto, you will serve as a technical subject-matter expert on disaster recovery (DR) strategies—evaluating application architectures, reviewing recovery runbooks, facilitating failover simulations, and ensuring critical systems meet stringent Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs). This position demands a technical authority with broad expertise across enterprise infrastructure, virtualization, database replication, networking, and cloud platforms who can translate complex resilience risks into actionable risk treatments and governance frameworks.
Location: Toronto, ON
Assignment Type: Hybrid (Minimum 3 days per week onsite, with Monday/Tuesday anchor days)
Contract Duration: 1-year contract (with potential for 6-month extension)
Advantages
High-Impact Resilience Leadership: Lead enterprise disaster recovery strategies, failover architectures, and business continuity frameworks across mission-critical infrastructure.
Broad Enterprise Technology Scope: Evaluate architectures spanning Windows, Linux, VMware virtualization, enterprise storage, databases, networks, and cloud platforms.
Full-Lifecycle DR Ownership: Drive the complete recovery lifecycle from initial architectural risk assessments and tabletop simulations to go-live failover testing and long-term program sustainment.
Balanced Hybrid Model: Enjoy a predictable hybrid working schedule combining collaborative onsite coordination in Toronto with remote flexibility.
Responsibilities
Provide senior-level technical leadership and disaster recovery expertise to support enterprise resilience and business continuity initiatives.
Review application and infrastructure recovery architectures to identify single points of failure, recovery risks, and critical system dependencies.
Assess, develop, and refine technical recovery strategies, disaster recovery plans, runbooks, and failover procedures to ensure alignment with approved RTOs and RPOs.
Design, coordinate, and lead disaster recovery testing programs, including tabletop exercises, failover simulations, and full-scale recovery validations.
Evaluate backup, data replication, clustering, and high-availability capabilities across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments.
Lead cross-functional teams (infrastructure, application, cybersecurity, and vendor leads) to implement recovery solutions and resolve technical dependencies.
Track remediation actions, document test findings, maintain audit evidence, and support the closure or formal disposition of identified technical risks.
Support post-incident reviews and post-mortems from a resilience perspective to incorporate lessons learned into continuous improvement plans.
Transition completed recovery projects into long-term DR program sustainment, including ongoing compliance monitoring, periodic architecture reviews, and executive reporting.
Prepare clear technical documentation, governance updates, executive briefings, and risk assessment reports for technical and business stakeholders.
Qualifications
Core Technical & Disaster Recovery Requirements
Professional Experience: Minimum 10+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise infrastructure, technical architecture, disaster recovery, or high-availability engineering.
DR Architecture & Testing: Proven experience designing, implementing, reviewing, and testing disaster recovery strategies, failover technologies, and replication solutions in large enterprise environments.
Broad Infrastructure Mastery: Deep technical knowledge across enterprise infrastructure domains, including Windows, Linux, VMware, storage systems, databases, networking, identity services, and cybersecurity controls.
RTO/RPO & Risk Assessment: Demonstrated expertise conducting recovery readiness assessments, gap analyses, and technical risk evaluations to meet defined RTOs and RPOs.
Project & Lifecycle Execution: Strong technical project management skills across the full lifecycle of technology implementation, testing, and sustainment.
Education: Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
Preferred Certifications & Regulated Environment Assets
Industry Certifications: Relevant designations such as CBCP, MBCI, ISO 22301, ITIL, TOGAF, AWS, or Azure certifications are considered strong assets.
Regulated Sector Experience: Experience delivering disaster recovery programs within large public sector organizations or highly regulated enterprise environments.
Soft Skills & Delivery Attributes
Executive Communication: Superior written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear options and recommendations for executive leadership.
Cross-Functional Facilitation: Strong stakeholder engagement capabilities to build consensus, lead technical workshops, and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and third-party vendors.
