We are seeking a dedicated Veneer Cutter for a permanent position. The Veneer Cutter is responsible for the meticulous cutting, matching, and laying out of various wood veneers to create precise and aesthetically pleasing surfaces. Key responsibilities include interpreting design specifications, operating specialized machinery, and ensuring high-quality, consistent results. The successful candidate will report to the Veneer Supervisor and collaborate with colleagues to achieve company objectives.

Shift: Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 15:30 (with a 1/2 hour lunch break). Overtime may be required.

Precisely cut, match, and lay out various wood veneer species.
Interpret detailed shop drawings and design specifications to apply advanced veneer matching techniques.
Set up, operate, and perform routine maintenance on veneer slicing machines, guillotine cutters, and other woodworking machinery.
Use mathematical and problem-solving skills to maximize veneer yield and minimize waste.
Apply strong mathematical and problem-solving skills to maximize veneer yield and minimize material waste.
Conduct thorough quality control checks on all materials and finished products to ensure they meet high standards.
Collaborate effectively with supervisors, project managers, and other team members to bring design visions to life.
Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of veneer species, cuts, grades, and backing materials.
Proven ability in veneer grading, assessing quality standards, and identifying defects.
Knowledge of different veneer cutting methods and which is appropriate for a specific design.
Knowledge of veneer matching techniques like book match and slip match to deliver consistent grain flow.
Mastery of cutting tools and techniques to achieve accurate, splinter-free results.
Proven artistic ability to create seamless grain flow and match patterns for superior visual appeal.
Proficient in using hand tools and operating woodworking machinery.
Strong math and spatial reasoning skills to optimize veneer yield.
Meticulous attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
At least 3years of experience working with veneers is preferred to understand different wood species and matching techniques. A candidate with 3 years of experience in a veneer room may also be considered. A cabinetmaker with an understanding of matching veneers and wood species is acceptable.
