Ventus Technical Consultant

The successful candidate will provide both technical leadership and hands-on development, working closely with internal developers, business analysts, and subject matter experts to deliver scalable, secure, and user-focused solutions.

Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Development
Lead upgrades of PHP, Symfony, and platform dependencies to supported versions
Design and implement new features to improve scheduling accuracy and user experience
Develop and maintain RESTful integrations and data import pipelines
Build scalable solutions for complex scheduling and accommodation logic

Platform Modernization & DevSecOps
Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and deployment strategies
Establish and maintain patching and vulnerability management processes
Introduce security practices including SAST/DAST, secure coding, and secrets management
Improve system observability through logging, monitoring, and alerting

System Performance & Reliability
Conduct performance tuning (database queries, caching, job queues)
Design and validate disaster recovery (DR) strategies and backup procedures
Optimize system performance during peak operational periods

Environment & Database Management
Manage application environments (dev/test/prod), including refresh cycles and deployments
Administer and optimize MySQL databases, including indexing and query tuning
Ensure data integrity, privacy, and compliance with accessibility standards

Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer
Work closely with stakeholders to define requirements and acceptance criteria
Produce technical documentation (architecture, deployment guides, runbooks)
Provide training and knowledge transfer to internal teams

Qualifications
8+ years of experience developing and modernizing PHP applications
5+ years working with Symfony framework (including upgrade projects)
Proven experience with:
System modernization and legacy upgrades
DevOps/CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar)
Containerization (Docker; Kubernetes is an asset)
Relational databases (MySQL or similar), including performance tuning
Strong experience designing:
RESTful APIs and integrations
Data pipelines with validation and error handling
Complex business logic or scheduling engines
Experience with security best practices, including patching, vulnerability management, and secure deployments
