Responsibilities
•Tax Compliance & Filing: Accurately prepare and review personal (T1), Terminal (T1 Final), and Trust (T3) income tax returns, including specialized filings such as Graduated Rate Estates (GREs) and "Rights or Things."
•Planning & Analysis: Identify post-mortem tax planning opportunities and provide technical guidance to the Estates & Trusts team.
•CRA Liaison: Review assessment notices, prepare adjustment requests, file notices of objection, and manage Clearance Certificate requests. Act as the primary point of contact for CRA correspondence.
•Data Management: Obtain necessary information from clients and internal/external sources to organize complex returns and perform detailed tax calculations.
•Operational Excellence: Maintain rigorous service standards for quality and responsiveness, ensuring all filing deadlines are met with limited supervision.
•Leadership & Mentorship: Manage and train junior staff members, reviewing their work for accuracy and compliance with tax laws.
•Special Projects: Participate in ad-hoc financial initiatives and process improvements as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications
Must-Have Requirements:
•Experience: 3+ years in an Accounting or Tax-specific role, specifically focusing on Estates and Trusts.
•Education: Post-secondary degree in Accounting or a related field.
•Technical Proficiency: Proven experience with Taxprep software and advanced MS Excel skills.
•Specialized Knowledge: Deep familiarity with T1 Terminals, T3 Trusts, GREs, and the Clearance Certificate process.
•Documentation: Ability to build and maintain electronic working paper files.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
•CPA designation (or currently working toward completion).
•Experience with CRA RepID and internal enterprise risk or banking systems.
Soft Skills:
•Exceptional Communication: Strong writing skills for detailed technical explanations and specialized terminology.
•Analytical Mindset: Excellent tax research skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
•Time Management: Ability to coordinate multiple concurrent activities and influence delivery from various stakeholders.
