Responsibilities
•Complex Tax Preparation: Prepare and review high-level tax returns, including T1 Final/Terminal returns, T3 Trust and Estate returns, GREs, and Rights or Things.
•Technical Oversight: Manage the workflow for junior staff, providing training and reviewing their files to ensure credit optimization and compliance.
•CRA Correspondence: Review assessment notices, prepare adjustment/objection notices, and handle Clearance Certificate requests and CRA inquiries.
•Subject Matter Expertise: Identify post-mortem and other tax planning opportunities; act as a technical consultant for the Executive Trust Associate Team.
•Operational Excellence: Maintain paperless working paper files and leverage Taxprep software to ensure all filings are completed accurately and on time.
Qualifications
•Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting or a related field.
•Experience: 3–5+ years of specialized experience in an accounting or tax role focused on Estates and Trusts.
•Professional Designations: CPA/CA is highly preferred; current accreditation in STEP, CSI, or advanced Taxation Courses is considered a significant asset.
•Technical Mastery: Advanced proficiency with Taxprep software and a strong understanding of Graduated Rate Estates (GREs).
•Soft Skills:
oExceptional writing skills tailored for specialized estate and trust terminology.
oAbility to coordinate multiple priorities and influence delivery from various stakeholders.
oProven leadership skills with the ability to take full ownership of projects with limited supervision.
