The Accountant – Expert will play a critical role in supporting excess work demands, with a strong focus on loan accounting review, financial analysis, and investigative accounting. Working closely with senior leadership, this role reports into the Finance Controllership function and partners with stakeholders across Canadian Commercial and Corporate Banking units.
This is a 6-month contract with a high possibility of extension and a potential opportunity for conversion, depending on performance and business needs.
Work Model: Hybrid – 2–3 days onsite (Monday, Tuesday, plus one floating day)

Responsibilities
•Executing loan contract accounting reviews to eliminate backlog
•Ensuring the integrity of loan ledgers and reported financial amounts
•Performing financial analysis, investigating variances, and explaining results
•Investigating accounting and/or process-related issues
•Supporting month-end close activities and resolving ad hoc issues during close
•Performing reconciliations and other accounting-related tasks as required
•Contributing to process improvement initiatives within the controllership function
•Working independently while collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders
Qualifications
Must Haves
•7+ years of relevant experience within financial services institutions
•Strong hands-on accounting experience (not academic/theoretical only)
•Advanced Excel proficiency (formulas, VBA, Macros)
•Experience working with large volumes of financial data
•Proven ability to investigate accounting issues and improve processes
•Strong attention to detail and analytical capability
•Excellent communication skills in English
•Self-driven, independent, and results-oriented mindset
Nice to Haves
•Experience with loan loss provisions and insurance accounting
•Familiarity with General Ledger applications (e.g., Peoplesoft, SAP, Oracle)
•Knowledge of financial controls environments
•CPA designation (or equivalent) preferred
•Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting standards
•ACBS system knowledge
•Experience within controllership environments
