The Opportunity: Are you a strategic finance leader who thrives in a high-pressure, capacity-constrained environment? Are you ready to step into a true "challenge role" where your ability to push back and enforce financial discipline directly impacts the bottom line? Do you want to be at the financial helm of a historic, $2 billion capital expansion program?
...
We are partnering with the Director of Finance at a massive, highly complex transportation and infrastructure hub to urgently identify an Assistant Director, Corporate Financial Planning. The organization is undergoing an unprecedented transformation, and the finance function needs to be elevated and "shovel-ready" to support this growth.
The business is shifting to a strict, top-down budgeting model. We are not looking for someone to simply consolidate wish lists; we need a confident, assertive finance leader who can act as a strategic advisor, govern top-down constraints, and tie deep operational metrics to financial outcomes.
Advantages
Excellent base salary
Targeted annual bonus of 20%
RRSP match program
Generous vacation, personal/sick day policy
Comprehensive health and dental coverage from day-one
Responsibilities
- Strategic Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and inspire a centralized FP&A team of 3 professionals, setting standards for best-in-class financial planning and reporting.
- Top-Down Budgeting & Planning: Oversee corporate budgeting, long-range planning, and rolling forecasts. Navigate severe capacity constraints and act as a strong business advisor to the executive team.
- Executive & Board Reporting: Prepare, review, and present highly articulate, concise, and strategic financial materials for the Executive team, the CFO, and the Board of Directors.
- System "Tune-Ups" & Automation: Champion the optimization of the enterprise's financial systems. The organization utilizes Workday Adaptive and requires a leader capable of conducting a system "tune-up" to fully realize its capabilities.
- Enterprise Data Integration: Partner with the data analytics group to leverage a newly established enterprise data hub. Extract insights from an environment where every operational minute is meticulously measured and tied to financial outcomes.
Qualifications
- Elite Verbal Communication: This is the ultimate dealbreaker. The successful talent must be exceptionally articulate and capable of explaining complex financial concepts concisely to non-finance executives.
- Assertive & Confident Personality: Must possess the gravitas and resilience to thrive in a high-pressure environment with ad-hoc demands. You must be comfortable with professionally challenging stakeholders.
- Credentials & Experience: A CPA designation (CA, CGA, CMA) is required; an MBA or CFA is a strong asset. You must bring 7-10+ years of progressive FP&A experience, ideally from asset-intensive, heavy infrastructure, transit, or highly complex operational environments.
- Technical Acumen: Advanced Excel skills and proven experience with EPM/ERP platforms. Direct experience implementing, optimizing, or "tuning up" Workday Adaptive is highly desirable, alongside a strong orientation toward modern data analytics.
