• Collaborate closely with retail teams to define and enforce data standards, particularly focusing on customer information, inventory, and sales data.
• Conduct targeted assessments of data quality in retail databases, addressing issues to optimize accuracy in pricing, inventory management, and customer insights.
• Implement data classification and metadata management processes tailored to the nuances of retail data, ensuring efficient data handling.
• Establish ownership and stewardship models for retail-specific data elements to enhance accountability and accuracy.
• Lead data governance training programs for retail staff, fostering data literacy and understanding of how quality data contributes to effective retail operations.
• Collaborate with IT teams to implement retail-centric data security measures, safeguarding sensitive information and transactional data.
• Ensure compliance with retail-specific regulations and standards, navigating complexities in areas such as point-of-sale data and customer privacy.
• Provide strategic guidance on data governance during the implementation of retail systems, optimizing processes for inventory management, CRM, and analytics.
• Stay abreast of retail industry trends and technologies, integrating innovative data governance solutions into retail operations.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Information Management, Computer Science, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 10 years of experience in a data governance role with a focus on the retail industry.
• In-depth understanding of retail-specific data challenges and opportunities.
• Proven ability to adapt data governance practices to align with retail business objectives.
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with retail teams and address industry-specific data needs.
• Certification in data management or governance (e.g., CDMP) is a plus.
• Analytical mindset with a track record of solving complex data issues in a retail context.
• Project management skills, with experience handling data initiatives within retail operations.
