Responsibilities
Leadership & Department Management:
Assess departmental strengths to ensure correct resource deployment and communicate staffing needs for ongoing product development.
Maintain a high-performing workforce through effective selection, training, and performance management.
Collaborate with Plant Engineering and the Solutions Operations team to solve quality issues, ensure system integrity, and share process information.
Product Engineering & Manufacturing:
Oversee the transition of new products to the shop floor, including prototyping, ordering tooling/equipment, and verifying accuracy against design drawings.
Analyze material and labor costs for products; introduce new automation and technology to reduce costs and improve quality.
Issue Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and modify layouts or tooling to improve manufacturing processes.
Support ISO 9001/ISO 14001 processes and ensure all product changes meet industry standards (e.g., BIFMA, CGSB, UL) without impacting backward compatibility.
Investigate root causes of product claims, traveling to installation sites as needed to implement permanent solutions.
Systems, Policy & Continuous Improvement
Plan and administer engineering software, specifically Solidworks CAD and Enterprise PDM, including version upgrades and user support.
Establish best practice guidelines for design, drafting, and FEA analysis, and manage engineering document control policies.
Prioritize and implement opportunities to enhance product quality and engineering process efficiency.
Qualifications
Education: University engineering degree (Mechanical preferred) or equivalent.
Licensing: P. Eng license preferred.
Experience: 10–15 years in product design/manufacturing, with 5+ years in technical management.
Software Proficiency: Strong knowledge of Solidworks and Enterprise PDM (User and Administrator level); proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
Technical Knowledge: Broad understanding of manufacturing technologies, design principles, ISO 9001 requirements, and MRP/ERP systems.
Soft Skills: Excellent communication, leadership, decision-making, and organizational skills; assertive and professional in building relationships.
Travel: Ability to adapt to new technologies and travel locally/internationally as required.
