We are seeking a highly strategic Enterprise Architect (Strategic Design) to drive the technical evolution, information architecture refresh, and technology roadmapping for key operational divisions. In this role, you will take ownership of defining target-state architectures, building 5-year technology strategies, and modernization efforts for foundational application portals (such as SWAP). Acting as a critical link between business units and corporate technology stakeholders, you will translate multi-tier requirements into secure, standardized, and high-performance solution designs.
...
Location: Toronto, ON (Onsite or Hybrid option available at Metro Hall, 55 John Street)
Duration: 6 months contract.
Advantages
High-Visibility Strategy: Drive the foundational technology roadmap and information architecture refresh for massive, real-world operational services.
End-to-End Architectural Impact: Own your designs entirely, from initial technology scans and vendor assessments through to procurement scope framing and implementation planning.
Executive Alignment: Act as a trusted technical advisor directly supporting senior management, steering committees, and core technical engineering teams.
Workplace Flexibility: Benefit from a reliable, standard daytime schedule with the choice of full-time onsite work or a structured hybrid model out of a premier downtown facility (Metro Hall).
Responsibilities
Strategic Roadmap Engineering: Develop and implement complex architecture models, target-state designs, and phased 5-year technology roadmaps to transition operations from current to future states.
Information Architecture Refresh: Blueprint and refresh vital information architecture sets, including Business Function Models, Material Flows tracking matrices, Common Terminologies, and Conceptual Data Models.
Requirements Translation: Elicit, clarify, and document technical and non-technical requirements and use cases, transforming them into solution blueprints and a structured Use Case Catalogue.
Technology Scans & Options Analysis: Conduct comprehensive internal and external market technology scans, delivering formal options analyses (evaluating reuse vs. net-new solutions) to determine best-fit software paths.
Standards & Policy Enforcement: Define and enforce architectural principles, patterns, data standards, and naming conventions to guide solution design decisions across the project lifecycle.
Integration Optimization: Assess the impact of integrating new applications and platforms into the existing enterprise landscape, collaborating with technical teams and executives to ensure seamless data flows.
Executive Advisory & Leadership: Produce solution architecture documentation, mid-point briefs, and final executive presentations. Communicate complex technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical business partners.
Risk & Security Governance: Incorporate comprehensive security, risk, and compliance baselines into all solution architectures, evaluating vendor-proposed approaches against corporate standards.
Stakeholder Facilitation: Design workshop plans, author facilitation materials, and lead cross-functional engagement sessions to consolidate operational requirements, gaps, and decisions.
Qualifications
Core Seniority: 8+ years of progressive experience in solution architecture design, strategic enterprise planning, and large-scale technical implementation within complex environments.
Artifact Production: Proven track record of producing high-level enterprise architecture artifacts, including models, 5-year roadmaps, systems integration designs, and architectural decision matrices.
Enterprise Integration: Broad experience integrating diverse applications and platforms across a distributed technical landscape.
Process Optimization: Demonstrated experience in process optimization, workflow standardization, and defining data governance baselines.
Procurement & Business Case Support: Experience contributing technical scope framing, acquisition materials, and cost models to support downstream procurement and implementation business cases.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
Asset Certifications: Professional designations such as TOGAF, ITIL, or COBIT are considered distinct assets.
Sector Context: Prior experience in public-sector or large, multi-stakeholder corporate environments is highly desirable.
