Responsibilities
As a core member of the estimating team, your day-to-day duties will include:
Working closely with clients to maintain a professional and reliable relationship.
Explaining complex or difficult construction topics clearly and effectively to clients.
Preparing precise, detailed estimates for residential renovations and commercial tenant improvement projects of varying scopes.
Performing thorough quantity takeoffs and building complete cost breakdowns for labor, materials, and trades.
Reviewing architectural drawings and specifications to fully grasp project requirements and spot missing information early.
Soliciting and analyzing pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.
Conducting occasional site visits to validate estimates and review project scopes in active residential construction environments.
Reporting directly to the Estimating Supervisor on your first day
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate a blend of technical expertise and practical site knowledge:
Professional background as an experienced Residential Estimator, Commercial Estimator, or Journeyman Carpenter.
Strong preference for individuals who have been self-employed or owned their own business and want to transition into a company role.
Highly proficient and experienced in accurately bidding jobs.
Deep knowledge of local building codes and regulations.
Strong practical understanding of structural load-bearing principles and how construction elements fit together.
High proficiency with Excel for estimating and managing current pricing data.
Disqualifying Backgrounds:
Candidates from a volume or production home builder background will not be selected, as this role focuses on custom specifications. Backgrounds as a Project Coordinator, Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Engineer, or Project Manager are incompatible with this position.
