Mechanic Apprentice (2nd or 3rd Year)
Are you a 2nd or 3rd-year apprentice looking for a role that offers more than just the standard shop routine?
We are looking for a dedicated and tech-savvy individual to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic environment that balances fleet maintenance (60%) with general automotive repair (40%).
...
In this role, you won’t just be turning wrenches in a bay; you’ll be working on a variety of vehicles—from light-duty commercial trucks and trailers (up to 5500 series) to cars and SUVs.
The Opportunity
You will work under the direct supervision of a Journeyman Mechanic, gaining high-level exposure to preventative maintenance, engine repairs, and electrical troubleshooting.
Mobile Experience: We operate with a mobile dispatch model. As you progress into your 2nd and 3rd years, you will have the opportunity to operate your own truck.
Tech-Forward Shop: We utilize Mitchell 1 OnDemand for data and online work-order management. High-level computer proficiency is a must.
Career Growth: This is a permanent position intended for someone looking to build a long-term career in the skilled trades.
Advantages
Competitive & Scaled Wages: We offer a competitive hourly rate that recognizes your experience level. As a 2nd or 3rd-year apprentice, your wage will reflect your growing skillset, with regular reviews as you progress through your NAIT modules.
Path to Independence (Company Truck): Unlike traditional shops where you stay at the same bay, we value autonomy. Exceptional 2nd and 3rd-year apprentices have the opportunity to move into their own service truck, transitioning into a mobile role with increased responsibility.
Diverse Skill Development: You won’t just be doing oil changes on sedans. With a 60% fleet / 40% general automotive split, you will master everything from light-duty commercial trucks and trailers (up to 5500 series) to modern SUVs.
Modern Tech Stack: We are a forward-thinking shop. You will be trained on Mitchell 1 OnDemand and our digital work-order management systems, ensuring you stay at the cutting edge of automotive diagnostics and shop technology.
Mentorship over Management: You’ll work directly with a seasoned Journeyman who is committed to your Red Seal journey. We don't just give you tasks; we explain the "why" to ensure you’re ready for your journeyman exams.
Permanent Career Track: We are looking for long-term tradespeople, not seasonal help. This is a permanent role with projects and expansion on the horizon, offering a stable environment to complete your apprenticeship and beyond.
Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations) and basic repairs under supervision.
Execute preventative maintenance on commercial fleets and trailers.
Diagnose and resolve issues within vehicle electrical systems.
Manage vehicle maintenance records and documentation digitally.
Assist with inventory management and order parts via phone and online.
Qualifications
Education: Current enrollment in the NAIT Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship Program (or equivalent). 2nd or 3rd-year apprentices preferred.
Technical Skills: High proficiency with hand tools and a solid grasp of automotive techniques. Familiarity with Mitchell 1 is a significant asset.
Computer Literacy: Must be highly "computer savvy" to navigate our digital work-order systems.
Licensing: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Physical Ability: Must be physically capable of lifting heavy objects and working in various environments.
Tools: Having your own basic toolset is considered a strong asset.
Must have a clean and current Driver’s Abstract.
Pass a Criminal Record Check.
Proof of Enrollment in the NAIT Automotive Apprenticeship Program (Letter from the Registrar or equivalent).
