Responsibilities
TECHNICAL:
Demonstrates a high degree of initiative, and resourcefulness in solving problems.
Good understanding of SelTrac Signal Plans and SelTrac Radio equipment.
Good knowledge of Railway infrastructure and deployment of trackside and equipment room assets within
greenfield and brownfield deployments.
Demonstrates an advanced level of logical reasoning resulting in effective hardware application designs,
products and processes.
Interprets and writes Requirements that provide traceability from high level customer designs to low level
detailed design elements.
Proficient in technical writing of technical design specifications, scope of works (SoWs) and requests for
proposals (RFQs).
High degree of familiarity with CENELEC and AREMA standards.
Prepares specifications for hardware and/or software components.
Proficient with the use of development tools, CAD packages (Microstation, AutoCAD).
Selects an appropriate design approach.
Maximizes the use of existing product designs.
Possesses or has the ability to gain the Hitachi Competency Management System (CMS) Designer or Principles
license.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT:
When required, perform the role of a Work Package Manager on projects, collaborating with a team of 1 to 5
Designers.
Assist with project-related tasks, such as planning timelines and tracking budgets to ensure project goals are
met.
Keeping track of progress on all tasks assigned to the SID project team.
Ensuring that all project tasks proceed according to schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all
requirements.
Generating accurate, supportable estimates for current departmental technology and providing estimates for
technologies that are new to the department.
Qualifications
Post-secondary Technologist diploma or Electrical or Electronics Engineering degree.
7-10 years of related work experience.
Proficient with the use of CAD tools (Microstation, AutoCad), Bills of Materials (SAP), Configuration
Management, Hitachi Change Control Process (Clearquest), and Microsoft Office suite.
Good interpersonal and diplomatic skills to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with people at any level
within the organization, and the customer.
