Responsibilities
As the HSE Coordinator, you will be the boots-on-the-ground leader responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of health and safety policies. Your goal is to ensure total compliance with legislation while championing a culture where safety and execution go hand-in-hand.
On-Site Leadership: Conduct rigorous inspections to neutralize hazards and partner with site supervisors to ensure protocols aren't just met, but mastered.
Training & Mentorship: Facilitate high-impact orientations and training for employees and subcontractors, ensuring every person on-site has the tools to succeed safely.
Rapid Incident Response: Respond with urgency to incidents or near-misses, conducting deep-dive investigations and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Emergency Readiness: Own the site’s emergency response plans, running effective drills to ensure the team is ready for any scenario.
Reporting & Compliance: Maintain precise documentation and stay ahead of provincial and federal regulations to ensure our client remains an industry leader in compliance.
Culture Building: Move beyond "check-box" safety. Actively engage with crews to reward excellence and promote a proactive safety mindset.
Qualifications
What You Bring to the Table:
Our client values hustle and intellectual curiosity over "the way it’s always been done." To excel here, you’ll need:
Certification: National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation is required.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of dedicated HSE experience within the construction sector.
Expertise: A post-secondary education in the HSE field and a Certified COR Auditor status (ACSA) are considered significant assets.
Drive: A valid Driver’s License and a clean abstract are essential.
Soft Skills: The ability to remain objective under pressure, communicate effectively to large groups, and manage multiple shifting priorities without losing focus.
Physical Requirements (BFOR)
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and safely.
Ability to walk long distances over uneven, obstructed terrain typical of active construction sites.
