Responsibilities
- Design Ownership: Lead technical designs for HVAC, plumbing, drainage, fire protection, and building automation systems for mid-to-high-rise buildings.
- Business Development: Actively participate in firm growth by responding to and winning Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Team Leadership: Provide daily technical guidance to junior staff, overseeing the development of construction documentation and engineering calculations.
- System Specification: Size and select all mechanical equipment, ductwork, and piping systems to meet project-specific requirements and building classifications.
- Stakeholder Management: Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, owners, and contractors, ensuring expectations are managed and met throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contract Administration: Conduct on-site reviews, manage change notices, and resolve complex construction issues.
Qualifications
- Professional Credentials: A P.Eng., C.E.T., LEL, or LET designation is strongly preferred.
- Extensive Experience: 7 - 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience specifically within the building services industry.
- Technical Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems across various building types (residential, commercial, and institutional).
- Code Mastery: Deep understanding of Canadian and Ontario standards, including OBC, SB-1, SB-10, NFPA (13, 14), CSA B149.1, and ASHRAE (62.1, 90.1).
- Communication & Leadership: Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to manage team workflows and coordinate with electrical, structural, and architectural disciplines.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a focus on detail-oriented design and customer service.
- Work Schedule: Comfortable working out of the Hamilton, ON office 5 days a week.
