Responsibilities
Coordinates and oversees payroll staff to ensure that all semi-monthly processes are executed
appropriately and in a timely manner
Operates as subject matter expert and escalation point to resolve issues and continuously looks
for improvements in operational processes
Processes all remittances including payroll taxes to federal and provincial governments
Generates payroll related reports and completes analysis
Prepares and processes journal entries, analyzing transactions and preparing account
reconciliations
Oversee the reconciliation and balancing (on a semi-monthly payroll cycle) of all payroll earnings
and deduction accounts
Conducts payroll orientations for new employees and provides guidance to and shares knowledge
with team members
Responds to payroll enquiries from employees and external organizations
Processes preliminary year-end balancing and reconciliations
Assists Payroll Manager on year-end activities and other special projects as required
Periodically attend in person meetings at the office
Assist/participate in special projects and may be required to attend in person.
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education/Work Experience
College Diploma or Undergraduate Degree or equivalent work experience
PCP or CPM designation from the CPA or equivalent
Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience with demonstrated coaching/mentoring skills
Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation
Experience with Workday payroll system would be an asset
Technical Skills
Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word skills
Other Skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills and proven ability to work independently and in a team environment
Ability to handle and use discretion with highly confidential information is mandatory
Ability to adapt to a changing environment
Advanced communication skills both written and oral
Excellent customer service, relationship building and cross-functional skills
Demonstrated ability to probe, analyze and problem solve issues
Demonstrated initiative and organizational, analytical, conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Knowledge of quality assurance and audit techniques
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy of results
