Responsibilities
In this Payroll Clerk role in Toronto, you will have the following benefits:
- Process employee timesheets and payroll data to ensure accurate and timely compensation for all staff in accordance with Canadian federal and provincial standards.
- Maintain payroll records and update employee information including TD1 tax forms, direct deposit details, and wage adjustments.
- Calculate gross pay, statutory deductions including CPP, EI, and federal and provincial income tax, as well as net pay.
- Issue and verify bi-weekly or monthly statements of earnings, including vacation pay, bonuses, and taxable benefits.
- Prepare and submit Records of Employment (ROE) to Service Canada within required timeframes for departing employees.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay cheques, T4 slips, benefit deductions, and union dues with professional clarity.
- Collaborate with the human resources department to verify new hire data, leaves of absence, and group benefit enrollments.
- Prepare and distribute payroll reports, remittances, and summaries for management and government agencies like the CRA.
- Reconcile payroll bank statements and identify any discrepancies to be resolved in accordance with internal controls.
- Assist with year-end processing including the generation and distribution of T4 and T4A slips and other relevant tax documents.
- Ensure the strict confidentiality of sensitive financial and personal information at all times.
Qualifications
We are looking for the following for this Payroll Clerk role located in Toronto:
- A post-graduate diploma or degree in either business administration or accounting is required.
- PCP or PLP certification is a very strong asset.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience processing payroll for employees in Ontario.
- Experience working with ADP WFN, or other similar payroll software is a strong asset.
- Experience or knowledge of accounting standards is a strong asset.
- Ability to work 3 full working days is required.
