Our client’s extensive product line—including Once-Through Steam Generators (OTSGs), Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs), fired heaters, and waste heat recovery solutions—is engineered through a blend of proprietary in-house design software and industry-standard tools. Supported by a culture of teamwork, inclusiveness, and continuous learning, the client delivers top-tier engineering solutions and offers outstanding opportunities for professional career growth.
On behalf of our client, Randstad is seeking a motivated and experienced Process Engineer (5–10 years of experience) to join their engineering team in Calgary, reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering.
In this role, you will lead thermal process simulation, optimization, equipment sizing, and thermal design activities from initial estimation through detailed design, fabrication, and execution. You will act as a key technical contributor across major thermal equipment projects (OTSGs, HRSGs, direct-fired heaters) while collaborating closely with Project Managers, Estimating, Procurement, Quality Assurance, and Drafting teams.
Advantages
Competitive base salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Comprehensive extended health, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and disability insurance (STD/LTD).
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and mental health/counselling support.
Generous paid time off (PTO).
Structured career development in a supportive, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
Thermal Design & Simulation: Perform and validate thermal process simulations using HTRI, FRNC, and proprietary Excel-based tools. Handle line sizing, PSV/PRV sizing, and overall process equipment selection.
Engineering Deliverables: Develop, review, and stamp/seal key process deliverables, including PFDs, P&IDs, Heat & Material Balances (HMBs), Equipment Datasheets, and valve sizing calculations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with project management, quality control, aftermarket, procurement, and drafting teams to ensure all designs adhere to project contracts, specifications, and regulatory codes.
Regulatory & Vendor Oversight: Support pressure vessel and piping registration (including OTSGs and HRSGs) and review third-party/vendor calculations and engineering packages for specification compliance.
Full Lifecycle Support: Contribute to multi-discipline activities through all project phases—quotation, detailed engineering, fabrication, site installation, commissioning, and startup.
Peer Review: Verify and check calculations and process deliverables created by other engineering team members.
Qualifications
Education & Registration: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or Process preferred). Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA (or EGBC/APEGS).
Experience: 5 to 10 years of relevant process engineering experience with a focus on thermal design and heat transfer equipment.
Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with process simulation software (HTRI, FRNC) and standard office programs (MS Office suite, advanced Excel).
Code Familiarity: Working knowledge of industry codes and standards, including ASME Section I & Section VIII-Div 1, ASME B31.1 & B31.3, CSA-B149.1/3, and API standards.
Interpersonal & Project Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills; comfortable working under tight project deadlines.
