The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and maintaining the food safety and quality management system in accordance with BRCGS and in full compliance with Safe Food for Canadian Regulations and the FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act. The Manager will drive a strong culture of quality and safety throughout the entire plant operation.
This position maintains a collaborative reporting relationship with the corporate Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance to harmonize programs, processes, supplier management, external services, certification, and regulatory compliance across all facilities.

Responsibilities
Create, implement, evaluate, modify, and enforce all food safety programs, company policies, and procedures.
Lead all aspects of BRCGS audits, including preparation, interaction with the auditor, and timely completion of resulting Non-Conformities (NCRs).
Manage and coordinate internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections.
Ensure full compliance with all relevant food safety regulations, including CFIA, FDA, etc.
Liaise with internal teams, customers, and suppliers regarding issues affecting product or service quality.
Plan and execute schedules for the QA Department, including personnel duties, product, and environmental sampling.
Implement and manage the change control process and ensure the HACCP plan is effective and updated regularly.
Conduct regular audits of the Food Safety and Quality Management system and initiate corrective actions as needed.
Oversee the testing and inspection of raw materials, work in-process (WIP), and finished products to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.
Investigate and resolve customer complaints, implementing robust corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Manage the comprehensive sanitation and environmental monitoring program.
Provide technical support for Production and R&D on product quality, safety, and development, ensuring adherence to the company’s new product protocol.
Utilize data and statistical analysis to monitor and continuously improve quality standards.
Identify areas for improvement in the manufacturing process and implement quality improvement initiatives.
Champion the development and maintenance of a strong food safety culture through training and personal development practices, emphasizing Food Safety, Quality, and Human Safety.
Collaborate with the corporate Food Safety and Quality Assurance team to harmonize programs and processes across all facilities.
Monitor, enforce, and continually improve health and safety in the workplace in accordance with legislative requirements.
Ensure staff are adequately trained and certified as required.
Support and assist in accident investigation and the implementation of corrective measures.
Lead, mentor, and develop the QA team, fostering a positive work environment and strong morale.
Exemplify and encourage a professional work style that promotes the company culture and its values of cooperation, teamwork, creative thinking, and responsibility.
Conduct regular performance reviews and provide training and development opportunities for team members.
Lead the hiring and training of QA team members.
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Food Science, a related field, or an equivalent combination of academic and professional experience.
Minimum 5 years of experience in Food Quality Assurance, preferably within the bakery sector.
In-depth knowledge of Quality Systems, HACCP, HARPC, BRCGS, SFCR, and FSMA (PCQI certification is highly desirable).
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
Demonstrable proficiency in all modules of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
Proven analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Excellent organization, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
