As a principal SAP Payroll authority, you will bridge the gap between organizational business needs, complex unionized payroll calculations, and standard SAP best practices. Operating within a hybrid work model, you will evaluate and validate system designs, oversee ECC to S/4HANA migration pathways, guide the implementation of SAP Payroll Control Center, and ensure full compliance with Canadian regulatory standards. This position demands a seasoned subject matter expert who can confidently lead design workshops, conduct risk assessments, and drive post-go-live stabilization across complex enterprise ecosystems.

Responsibilities
Review and validate the implementation approach and design artifacts (blueprints, functional specifications, technical specifications) to ensure adherence to standard SAP best practices.
Provide expert guidance on implementing SAP Payroll Control Center, Fiori apps for ESS/MSS, and process optimizations for the lift-and-shift from ECC to S/4HANA.
Conduct comprehensive quality assurance checks, system configuration reviews, risk assessments, and gap analyses throughout the project lifecycle.
Participate in requirements-gathering workshops to establish detailed As-Is documentation and design future-state To-Be solution blueprints.
Assess and validate integration touchpoints across Finance (GL posting, third-party remittance), Time Management, Benefits, SuccessFactors, and external bank or pension interfaces.
Oversee data conversion, migration, extraction, cleansing, and validation activities in collaboration with technical delivery teams.
Ensure all payroll calculations, tax configurations, and system logic fully comply with relevant Canadian legal and regulatory requirements.
Support testing phases by reviewing test plans, validating unit, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT) results, and guiding defect resolution.
Assist in developing cutover strategies, executing payroll parallel testing, validating parallel run results, and resolving post-go-live issues.
Facilitate knowledge transfer sessions and prepare comprehensive documentation, status reports, and enhancement recommendations to support operational sustainment.
Qualifications
Core Technical & Domain Experience
Extensive SAP Payroll Tenure: 20+ years of specialized experience in SAP Employee Central (EC) Payroll and HCM, including full lifecycle implementations and production support for Canadian payroll and time management.
Complex Unionized Systems: Proven track record working with complex unionized payroll environments, including union calculations, custom schema development, and rule configurations.
Global Configuration & Legacy Conversions: Experience with global configuration in Personnel Administration, Organizational Management, Benefits, and migration strategies from legacy ECC platforms.
System Integrations: Expertise in integrating payroll with time management, benefits, financial posting (GL), third-party remittances, and outbound interfaces to banking and pension providers.
S/4HANA & Tooling Depth: Hands-on experience with SAP Payroll Control Center, Fiori implementations, and project tools such as SAP Solution Manager and HP ALM.
Certifications & Strategic Leadership
Professional Certifications: Active certifications in SAP HR/HCM, SAP Time and Payroll Academy, or SAP SuccessFactors are strongly preferred.
Delivery Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead payroll teams through blueprinting, configuration, testing, and continuous process improvement.
Consultative Communication: Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills to effectively advise project leadership, facilitate workshops, and deliver executive updates.
